As of July 2026, there are eight active programs open to idea-stage startups in India. These include grants, incubators, and competitions — notably the Ambedkar Social Innovation and Incubation Mission (ASIIM) for SC entrepreneurs, Genesis by IKP for deep science ventures, and the NERVE CoE Open Challenge Program for AI/DeepTech startups. Together they cover a wide range of sectors and eligibility criteria.

The funding landscape for idea-stage startups in India has become more structured. Most programs offer grant funding (non-equity) of up to ₹30–50 lakh, coupled with incubation support. Common thresholds include requiring a registered company (often not older than 5 years), a proof-of-concept, and alignment with specific social or sectoral priorities. Several programs also mandate institutional affiliation with a recognised incubator.

ASIIM (Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment)

The Ambedkar Social Innovation and Incubation Mission (ASIIM) is a Government of India initiative under the Venture Capital Fund for Scheduled Castes (VCF-SC) run by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. It targets SC youth with innovative, technology-driven ideas. ASIIM operates through a network of Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) — including DST-supported centres — which identify and support startups. Idea-stage founders receive structured incubation plus grant funding of up to ₹30 lakh. There is no fixed deadline; applications are accepted on a rolling basis through partner incubators.

Before Applying

Several programs have specific stage definitions. For instance, Genesis by IKP explicitly targets TRL 2–3, meaning concept validation and experimental proof-of-concept — not later stages. The North East Growth Lab requires the startup to be based in or focused on the North East region. ASIIM mandates that at least one founder be from the Scheduled Caste community. TribePreneurs is exclusive to Scheduled Tribes founders. NERVE CoE focuses on AI and DeepTech in specific sectors (HealthTech, AgriTech, Forestry, Mining). Also note that some programs require institutional affiliation with a recognised incubator (ASIIM, iCreate).

Timing: Three programs close on 15 July 2026 — North East Growth Lab, NERVE CoE OCP, and TribePreneurs Idea Quest. Missing these cohorts means waiting for future cycles (cohort-based programs like Genesis by IKP also have a hard deadline of 31 July 2026). Rolling-deadline programs (ASIIM, iCreate, Ideabaaz, Indian Innovation Icons) may have application windows or pre-screening steps. For Ideabaaz, there is a pitching show component; for iCreate, a gateway application process. Check each program's page for details on letters of intent or preliminary registration.
