For residential consumers, Central Financial Assistance (CFA) of up to ₹78,000 per household is available as a direct non-repayable subsidy based on system capacity (slab-based). For MSMEs and industrial/commercial premises, state-level distribution-linked subsidies and facilitated CAPEX or RESCO (Renewable Energy Service Company) models are available, enabling solar installation at low or zero upfront cost. Net-metering allows surplus power generated to offset electricity bills, providing ongoing monetary savings. No equity is taken and the CFA is not repayable.

Who can avail the PM Surya Ghar rooftop solar subsidy?
Residential electricity consumers installing rooftop solar on their own premises are directly eligible for Central Financial Assistance (CFA). MSMEs and commercial establishments can benefit through state-level distribution-linked subsidies or facilitated CAPEX/RESCO models; the DISCOM must be notified in all cases.
How much subsidy is available for residential consumers?
The CFA is slab-based: up to ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW, and ₹78,000 for 3 kW and above per household. The subsidy is credited directly to the consumer''s bank account after installation and inspection.
What are the benefits for MSMEs?
MSMEs can reduce electricity costs substantially through net-metering (excess solar power fed to the grid offsets the bill). State industrial incentive policies often stack additional capital subsidies or interest subvention for solar on MSME premises. The RESCO model also allows zero-capex solar with a power-purchase agreement.
Is any equity taken?
No. CFA is a non-repayable subsidy. No equity stake is taken by the government.
How do I apply?
Apply on the national portal at pmsuryaghar.gov.in. Select your state DISCOM, register, and apply for net-metering. Only empanelled vendors listed on the portal may install the system. After installation, the DISCOM inspects and issues a net-meter; the subsidy is then disbursed within 30 days.
Can I combine this with other schemes?
Yes. MSMEs can combine PM Surya Ghar benefits with solar components of state industrial incentive policies and with MSME technology-upgrade schemes where solar capex is an eligible expense.
