The Women Development and Child Welfare Department is a Government of Andhra Pradesh department created in 1987 for the effective formulation and implementation of policies for women and children. Headquartered in Amaravati, the department oversees various welfare and empowerment schemes including the Girl Child Protection Scheme, Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), and Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS). The department runs programs aimed at empowering women through skill development, livelihood training, and self-help group formation. It manages schemes like Shakthi that provide financial support and capacity building to women across the state. The department also partners with other government agencies and development organisations to create enabling environments for women-led enterprises and economic participation in Andhra Pradesh.
Women and children across Andhra Pradesh, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Women entrepreneurs seeking state government support for livelihood development and skill-building programs, as well as community organisations working on women's empowerment and child welfare in the state, benefit from the department's schemes and policy frameworks.
