Tamil Nadu LangTech Startup Fund (StartupTN)

The Tamil Nadu LangTech Startup Fund is a state government initiative run by StartupTN with the Tamil Virtual Academy. It supports startups building Tamil language technology, with a corpus of ₹2.5 crore. The deadline for the current cycle is 31 August 2026.

The fund is aimed at AI, natural language processing, and machine learning solutions for Tamil. Idea-stage startups that have not yet launched a product are eligible, provided they have a clear plan for Tamil-centric technology. Selected teams receive financial support and incubation, including access to Tamil language corpora and academic expertise.

This is one of the few state grants in India focused on a single language. For founders working on Tamil speech, translation, or content generation tools, it is a fast, sector-specific funding route.

Ambedkar Social Innovation and Incubation Mission (Ministry of Social Justice)

The Ambedkar Social Innovation and Incubation Mission (ASIIM) is a central government program under the Venture Capital Fund for Scheduled Castes, run by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. It provides grants and incubation to technology-driven ventures from Scheduled Caste communities, with support of up to ₹30 lakh.

ASIIM works through Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) across the country. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, but you need to be associated with a participating TBI to apply. The program is designed for early-stage founders who have a business concept and are ready to transition from ideation to implementation.

Because it is rolling and does not have a fixed cohort, ASIIM offers a flexible entry point. The sector is open, but the program prioritises innovative, technology-based ideas with social impact.

Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) Program at IITM Pravartak (IITM Pravartak)

The Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) Program at IITM Pravartak is a pre-incorporation grant for innovators in cyber-physical systems. It is run by IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation, the IIT Madras Technology Innovation Hub under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems.

The program provides up to ₹4.2 lakh in grant funding and access to infrastructure at the IIT Madras Research Park. Its goal is to take an individual innovator with a CPS idea and support them through the development of a working prototype. Once the prototype is ready, the founder is expected to incorporate and move into IITM Pravartak's incubation pipeline for follow-on funding.

This is one of the few grants that explicitly targets the pre-company stage. It suits solo founders and small teams building hardware, IoT, robotics, or embedded systems that need lab facilities. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

EngSUI Innovation Challenge (SIIC IIT Kanpur)

The EngSUI Innovation Challenge is a collaboration between SIIC IIT Kanpur and Engineers India Limited (EIL), a public sector engineering and EPC company. It funds early-stage startups working on technologies relevant to EIL's energy and industrial operations.

Selected startups receive up to ₹20 lakh in grant funding and incubation support at SIIC. The challenge is open to idea-stage and early-revenue startups, with a rolling application window. EIL's involvement also creates an opportunity for startups to pilot their technology in a real industrial environment.

Because EIL operates across the energy value chain, the program suits startups working on process efficiency, sustainability, materials, or digital tools for infrastructure. A proof-of-concept is preferred, though not always required at the initial screening.

Indian Innovation Icons 2027 (Marico Innovation Foundation)

The Indian Innovation Icons 2027 is the 11th edition of the Marico Innovation Foundation's biennial innovation program. It accepts both for-profit and not-for-profit ventures that are solving major real-world problems.

Rather than a fixed grant, the program provides strategic mentorship, investor access, business connections, and national recognition. For an idea-stage startup, this can be as valuable as seed capital, since it opens doors to follow-on funding.

Applications are rolling, but the program runs on a two-year cycle. Missing the current edition means waiting until 2029. The evaluation focuses on the innovation's uniqueness and its potential to make a significant impact.

The Vault Bharat — Season 2

The Vault Bharat — Season 2 is a startup reality show that invites founders based in Uttar Pradesh to pitch live to a panel of investor-entrepreneurs. Season 1 saw over 100 startups pitch; Season 2 is now accepting applications for funding of up to ₹1 crore per startup.

The show is open to all sectors and all stages, from idea to scaling business, as long as the startup has an office address in UP. It is a competition format, so timelines depend on the production schedule; the current window is rolling.

This is a unique route to angel and venture capital for UP-based founders. You need to be comfortable presenting financials, founder backgrounds, and fundraising plans on camera.

iDEX Open Challenge (iDEX)

The iDEX Open Challenge is a flagship initiative of the Defence Innovation Organisation (DIO) and Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX). It is designed to harness Indian engineering talent for defence and aerospace, with focus areas including autonomous systems, intelligent machines, advanced materials, predictive algorithms, and rocket engines.

Winning proposals can receive up to ₹1.5 crore in grant funding. The deadline for the current cycle is 30 September 2026. Startups, MSMEs, and individual innovators are all eligible to apply.

For an idea-stage startup, iDEX offers a structured path from concept to defence product, with direct engagement with the services. The selection process is rigorous, but the reward is both financial and strategic.

MC²+ Grand Butanol Challenge (MC² Foundation)

The MC²+ Grand Butanol Challenge is an energy innovation platform from the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas and the Department of Biotechnology. It brings together seven energy majors to support the production of n-butanol and iso-butanol as diesel-blending fuels.

The challenge seeks indigenous, scalable, and commercially viable technologies for butanol production. Innovators, startups, and research institutions can apply across multiple challenge areas. The total prize money is up to ₹7.5 crore, and the application deadline is 15 August 2026.

This is the most immediate deadline among all the programs listed here. The challenge is suitable for idea-stage ventures only if they have a strong technical foundation and a credible pathway to industrial scale.

Before Applying

Before applying, check the eligibility boundaries in each program. ASIIM is limited to entrepreneurs from Scheduled Caste communities and requires affiliation with a Technology Business Incubator. The EIR at IITM Pravartak is open only to pre-incorporation innovators working on cyber-physical systems. The Vault Bharat Season 2 accepts only startups with an office address in Uttar Pradesh.

On deadlines, the MC²+ Grand Butanol Challenge closes today, 15 August 2026. The Tamil Nadu LangTech Fund closes on 31 August 2026, and the iDEX Open Challenge on 30 September 2026. The other programs accept rolling applications, but Indian Innovation Icons runs on a biennial schedule — missing this cycle means waiting until 2029.
