How grants work for Indian startups

What a grant is

Money you don't pay back and don't give up shares for. It usually comes with milestones and is often paid in parts as you hit them.

Who gives grants

Central ministries and departments, state startup policies, incubators that run government schemes, and corporate or foundation programs.

What funders check first

Whether you qualify — company age, sector, stage, and often DPIIT recognition. Then how clearly you explain the problem, your solution and how you'll use the money.

How to get ready

Pick programs that fit your stage and sector, read each program's own guidelines, and have your pitch deck and budget ready before the window opens.
