STPI has opened a new incubation facility in Dehradun. According to a Press Information Bureau release posted on 23 October 2026, Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), an organisation under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, inaugurated the space at IT Park, Sahastradhara Road, Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

This is not a grant or a funding call. It is workspace and support infrastructure for IT and IT-enabled services companies and startups in the state. The release does not say how a startup can get space in it, so treat it as a place to enquire, not yet a programme to apply to.

What the new facility offers

The release says the facility is spread across approximately 30,000 sq. ft. over four floors. What it lists:

  • Semi-furnished office spaces
  • High-speed internet connectivity
  • An air-conditioned and eco-friendly working environment
  • An auditorium
  • Two meeting rooms and two conference rooms
  • A Network Operations Centre (NOC)

STPI says the space has been designed as a working environment for technology enterprises, to support collaboration, business development and growth. The stated aims are to give technology companies and startups modern infrastructure and to encourage innovation, entrepreneurship, product development and employment generation in the state.

The union minister of state for electronics and IT and commerce and industry, Jitin Prasada, inaugurated it. Two Uttarakhand ministers were present. In his remarks he pointed to Uttarakhand already having more than 1700 recognised startups, and said the new facility can help attract investment and create opportunities for young talent. That is the minister's own description of the state, not something we have checked.

The existing facility

This is not STPI's first space in Dehradun. The release says STPI Dehradun was established in 2001 with the support of the Government of Uttarakhand. It has worked to support the state's IT industry through incubation services and the STP, Non-STP and EHTP schemes.

The existing incubation facility at IT Park, Dehradun offers approximately 19,533 sq. ft. of super built-up space, and multiple IT units are currently using it. The new facility, STPI says, will add to the infrastructure available to technology enterprises in the region.

The funding track record in Dehradun

The release also gives figures for what STPI Dehradun has done for startups under the Next Generation Incubation Scheme (NGIS):

  • 52 startups have been selected through challenge programmes.
  • 17 of them received seed funding amounting to ₹4.25 crore.
  • More than 26 received stipends of ₹90,000 each.

These are STPI's own numbers for activity to date. The release does not say whether another challenge round is planned, when it would open, or what the criteria would be. It also does not say whether startups in the new facility will have any priority for these schemes.

Support beyond the office space

STPI's Director General, Arvind Kumar, said the organisation's nationwide network helps startups reach investors, expertise and technology solutions from across the country. He said the Dehradun facility will also support startups through mentorship, industry connections and Centres of Entrepreneurship that focus on real-world challenges, including cybersecurity. The Uttarakhand IT Secretary also mentioned a Centre of Entrepreneurship as part of the support on offer to young entrepreneurs.

These are descriptions of intent. The release gives no detail on how mentorship is delivered, who runs these centres in Dehradun, or whether they are open to every startup.

What has not been announced

The release does not say:

  • How a startup or company applies for space in the new facility
  • What the space will cost, or whether there are any fees
  • Who is eligible, or how occupants will be selected
  • Whether the seed funding and stipend programmes are open for new applicants now

If you need any of this to plan, do not assume it. Ask STPI Dehradun directly.

What this means for you

  • Based in Uttarakhand and building an IT, software or tech product? Contact STPI Dehradun and ask about space at the new facility, the terms, and who is eligible. The release gives no application route, so a direct enquiry is the only sensible next step.
  • Looking for early funding? The NGIS numbers show that seed funding and stipends have gone to startups chosen through challenge programmes. Ask STPI Dehradun when the next challenge programme opens before you plan around it.
  • Outside Uttarakhand? STPI's nationwide network is what its Director General highlighted. It may be worth checking what STPI offers near you, but this release only covers Dehradun.
  • Keep your expectations plain. This release describes a building and a track record. It is not an offer of funding, and nothing in it guarantees a place for any particular startup.
