The Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) was established through an Act of Parliament in 2023, replacing the erstwhile Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB). Notified in February 2024, it is governed by a board headed by the Prime Minister of India and provides high-level strategic direction for research, innovation, and entrepreneurship across natural sciences, engineering, technology, environmental sciences, health, agriculture, and scientific interfaces of humanities.
ANRF seeds and grows research capacity at universities and colleges where research is at a nascent stage, forges collaborations among industry, academia, and government, and is operationalizing a Rs 1 lakh crore Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Fund designed to channel patient capital into deep-tech, high-impact projects. Programs include research grants, fellowships, academic chairs, and centres of excellence.
Researchers, academic institutions, and deep-tech startups across India seeking research funding, institutional collaborations, and support for translating research into commercial applications. Universities building nascent research capacity and founders working on frontier science benefit from ANRF's capacity-building programs and funding instruments.
