Scheme to provide Grant in Aid for students of High Schools and Higher Secondary schools in the State of Goa

Students of high schools and higher secondary schools in Goa can receive a grant to attend science seminars, workshops and awareness programmes in India. The scheme is implemented by the Goa State Council for Science and Technology (GSCST). Each group is funded at its actual expenses or a set maximum, whichever is less, and up to 10 groups are funded each year.

Who can apply

  • Students recommended and attested by their Principal or Headmaster.
  • At least 40 percent of each group must come from the ST community.

How selection works: A Project Review Committee reviews proposals, and grants are released on its recommendation.

Scheme for Goa Rajya Vidnyanik Puraskar (GRVP)

Competition

Yearly state award for Goan innovators and scientists whose ideas are turned into a product or process.

What you get, who can apply and how to apply

The Goa Rajya Vidnyanik Puraskar gives three awards in each financial year to Goan innovators and scientists, one each in the categories of innovation, environment and societal impact. Each award carries a cash prize, paid into the winner's bank account.

Who can apply

  • Students, startups, innovators, research faculty and scientists who have lived in Goa for the last 15 years.
  • Projects must relate to a hardware or software product innovation. An applicant can use the scheme only once.

How to apply: Apply through the Virtual Innovation Register portal run by the Goa State Innovation Council. Registration on the portal is mandatory to claim the award.

Scheme to encourage students for innovative projects

Grant scheme

Financial support, paid to the student's institute, for Goan students developing a technology innovation.

The scheme gives financial support to students of Goa who want to turn a technology innovation into a project. It is implemented by the Goa State Innovation Council (GSInC), and up to 10 projects are supported each financial year.

Who can apply

  • Students from educational institutes in Goa.
  • The idea must be registered on the Virtual Innovation Register as a new idea.

How selection works: A Selection Committee approves projects. Support is paid in one instalment to the institute, and bills for materials and tools bought for the project must be kept and submitted to the GSInC.

Manohar Parrikar Yuva Scientist Award (MPYSA)

Competition

Annual award for one young Indian scientist, under 35, for excellence in science and technology.

Best for: Indian scientists under 35 working in science, technology and innovation

What you get, who can apply and how to apply

The Manohar Parrikar Yuva Scientist Award is given once a financial year to one Indian scientist, recommended by an Expert Committee. It carries a cash prize and is named after the late Chief Minister of Goa and Defence Minister of India, Manohar Parrikar.

Who can apply

  • Indian citizens whose age does not exceed 35 years on the date of application.
  • The field of excellence must be in science, technology and innovation. An applicant can use the scheme only once.

How selection works: An Expert Committee shortlists candidates, and shortlisted candidates are invited to present before it.

How to apply: Applications are advertised each July. Send them in the prescribed format to the department's official e-mail, dirste.goa@nic.in, and by hard copy, before the due date.
