About SMC Startup Procurement & Promotion Policy
Surat Municipal Corporation has a policy that lets startups propose solutions to city problems and pilot them with the corporation. The policy is linked from the centre's home page and also applies to the corporation's special purpose vehicles.
What you get
- A way to pitch a solution to a municipal department, either against a published problem statement or as an unsolicited proposal
- A pilot in the city if your proposal is approved
- A bid process after a successful pilot, in which your startup gets a right of first refusal
- Ownership of the intellectual property created under the project
- Use of the corporation's smaller halls, including the centre's auditorium, for startup events with the rental charge waived, subject to approval
Who can apply
- A startup with a valid DPIIT recognition certificate
- An entity with an Udyam registration as a micro or small enterprise
How selection works: A Screening Committee led by the Managing Director of the centre assesses proposals and recommends pilots. A Governing Council chaired by the Municipal Commissioner approves them.
How to apply: Respond to a problem statement on the corporation's portal, the centre's portal or the CiX portal, or send an unsolicited proposal there. You can also pitch the relevant corporation department directly.
