About Chief Minister's Start-up Scheme incubation
This is the state route into BIC-HPU, and the one most of its incubatees came through. Selected founders get a place at the centre and a sustenance allowance that the Himachal Pradesh Department of Industries deposits straight into their own accounts rather than routing through the university.
What you get
- A desk on the plug-and-play incubation floor, with a conference room on the same level.
- Two ground-floor laboratories set aside for incubatees, plus shared use of the biotechnology and microbiology departments' instrumentation labs, IT lab, library and seminar room.
- A sustenance allowance paid directly by the state Department of Industries.
- Workshops, industrial visits and investor and mentor connect sessions run by the centre.
Who can apply
- Founders working on a venture that fits the centre's domains: biotechnology, rural development, healthcare, livelihood and employment, technology and monitoring, lifestyle, and waste to value.
- The centre's stated objective covers ideas coming out of not-for-profits, academic institutions and research bodies, so it is not limited to the university's own students.
- This is a Himachal Pradesh government scheme and the state's own rules on who qualifies apply. Check them on the state startup portal before you build an application.
How selection works: applications go to a screening committee chaired by the university's Vice-Chancellor, with the Director of Industries for Himachal Pradesh, the General Manager of the District Industries Centre in Shimla, four industry representatives, three from financial institutions, six academics from the university and six research and development experts.
How to apply: through the Himachal Pradesh government's startup portal, which the centre's own apply page links to. The centre publishes no intake dates of its own, so write to it first to check it is taking new incubatees.
