About Business incubation at TCGTBI

TCGTBI admits startups into its business incubator at IIEST Shibpur on a rolling basis. There is no cohort calendar or closing date. Companies are admitted after a questionnaire, a business plan review and expert due diligence, and then sign an agreement with TCGTBI.

What you get

  • Company-specific office space and an internet connection, with shared use of a conference room, printing, scanning, a library and a pantry
  • Access to departmental laboratories at IIEST Shibpur, subject to the institute's rules and fees
  • A pool of mentors and experts, networking events and meetings with visitors such as alumni, investors and industry professionals
  • IP facilitation, technology transfer support, business development seminars and training
  • A seed loan only if funds or schemes exist for it, and not as a right of admission

Who can apply

  • Current and recent faculty members of IIEST Shibpur
  • Students and alumni of IIEST Shibpur
  • Research and consultancy partners of IIEST Shibpur where a faculty member is an advisor, mentor or promoter
  • Others with an entrepreneurial mindset and innovation orientation, per its who-can-incubate page. The policy document lists only the first three groups.
  • A registered unlisted company, or the promoters together if the company is not yet registered. Register within three months of approval.

How selection works: The team screens a Pre-Application Questionnaire, then a formal application with a business plan and details of the IP or technology. Experts from outside the TCGTBI staff review it, including financial and technical due diligence, and may ask you to present. TCGTBI decides at its sole discretion.

What it costs: A discounted monthly facilities charge, and a 10% equity holding for TCGTBI in return for infrastructure and use of IP developed at IIEST Shibpur. The stay is 36 months to begin with and can be extended by up to 24 months.

How to apply: Collect or download the Pre-Application Questionnaire from the TCGTBI office or website. Questions can go to gm.tcgtbi@iiests.ac.in.
