The Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA) is a research institute under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. Established on April 1, 1987, CIBA serves as the nodal agency for the development of brackishwater aquaculture in India.
Headquartered in Chennai with an experimental field station at Muttukadu and research centres at Kakdwip (West Bengal) and Navsari (Gujarat), CIBA conducts research across multiple disciplines including shrimp and fish culture technology, hatchery technology, nutrition, biotechnology, genetics, pathology, aquaculture engineering, and socio-economics. The institute maintains an extensive library covering all aspects of aquaculture and fisheries science.
CIBA partners with state governments on aquaculture development, recently signing an MoU with the Government of Goa on super-intensive shrimp farming and capacity building.
Aquaculture entrepreneurs, fish farmers, aqua-tech startups, and researchers working in brackishwater aquaculture, shrimp farming, and fisheries technology across India's coastal regions.
