DKTE's innovation support is built for its own students and faculty, so start by checking that you fit.

• If you study or teach at DKTE: the Institution's Innovation Council and the AICTE-IDEA Lab are open to you. Ask your department's IIC coordinator how to take part in the next workshop, idea competition or hackathon.
• If you are a student or young person from the Ichalkaranji area: watch for the entrepreneurship skill development programmes the institute runs with its MSME incubation centre, which it opens to rural youth as well as students.

DKTE Society's Textile & Engineering Institute is an autonomous engineering and textile college in Ichalkaranji, Maharashtra, affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur. Its innovation and startup support is run in-house through an Institution's Innovation Council, an AICTE-IDEA Lab and a textile-focused technology business incubation unit, all aimed at the institute's own students and faculty rather than outside founders.

The college sits in the heart of Maharashtra's powerloom belt, and its incubation thrust reflects that: the technology business incubation unit is registered with a focus on garment and textile technology. Support here is campus-gated. The people it is built for are DKTE students and faculty, and, for some skill programmes, young people from the surrounding rural area.

How the innovation support works

The Institution's Innovation Council, or IIC, is the main engine. DKTE set it up under the Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell in collaboration with AICTE, the national programme that asks colleges to build a startup culture on campus. DKTE's council has been given a four-star rating by the Ministry's Innovation Cell. Its members are DKTE faculty and students, and it meets each quarter to plan and review activity. In practice that means workshops, expert sessions on entrepreneurship, IPR awareness sessions, an internal Smart India Hackathon, idea competitions and field visits to spot real problems. The council's own stated goal is to take students from scouting an idea through pre-incubation and incubation towards a startup.

Alongside the council, DKTE runs an AICTE-IDEA Lab. This is a hands-on space where students and faculty can prototype and build. Its equipment, bought through the institute's tender process, includes a CNC router, a 3D scanner, a laser engraving and cutting machine and a mixed-signal oscilloscope, plus a multi-function machine. The lab is meant to work with the institute's other workshops and centres so that internships, skill training, product and prototype development and sample production can all happen on campus. It is also shared with the college's skill-development courses under the national skills framework.

The institute says its IDEA Lab works together with an existing MSME incubation centre to run entrepreneurship skill development programmes, both for its students and for young people from nearby rural areas. DKTE has also adopted the National Innovation and Startup Policy for Students and Faculty, the model policy that AICTE asks colleges to put in place, and it runs a DKTE IP Cell for patent and intellectual-property support.

Who can apply

This is campus-facing support, not an open incubator. The innovation council and the IDEA Lab are for DKTE's own students and faculty. The entrepreneurship skill programmes reach a slightly wider group, since the institute names rural youth alongside students. There is no public cohort call, dated intake or external application form on the institute's site for any of this. A founder from outside the college who wants to work with DKTE would need to contact the institute directly rather than apply to a programme.

Recognition

DKTE Textile & Engineering Institute appears in the Department of Science and Technology's national list of technology business incubators, under the NIDHI programme's published lists. It is named as the host institute, with the incubator's registered name given as DKTE Technology Business Incubation and its thrust area recorded as garment and textile technology. The listing confirms that a technology business incubation designation was granted, but the register does not publish a sanction date, period or current status, so whether that support is active today cannot be told from it. Separately, the institute's own pages describe a TIFAC-CORE centre in technical textiles and a Smart Foundry lab, both described as supported by DST, and a Centre of Excellence in Nonwovens, among a set of industry-sponsored laboratories on campus. The council's pages also mention the institute's ranking in the national ARIIA innovation survey, which is a ranking exercise rather than an incubation recognition.

Who runs it

The institute is led by its Director, Prof. (Dr.) Mrs. L. S. Admuthe. The Institution's Innovation Council is chaired by its President, Prof. (Dr.) D. V. Kodavade, who is also a head of department and Dean for projects and consultancy. The council has a wider committee of faculty coordinators across the textile, mechanical, electronics, computer science, civil, electrical and MBA departments, along with student coordinators.
