SEED support is positioned to act as a bridge between promoter’s investment and Angel/Venture investment. The scheme is implemented through selected BioNEST Incubators who as BIRAC’s SEED Fund partners receive grant–in-aid support of INR 200 lakhs/ cycle for deployment in Biotech Startups.

The scheme is implemented through selected BioNEST Incubators who as BIRAC’s LEAP Fund partners receive grant–in-aid support of INR 500 lakhs/ cycle for deployment in Biotech Startups.

Fund of Funds - AcE” fosters R&D and innovation in Biotechnology domains by plugging the funding gap encountered by the biotech startups during their ‘product development cycle’ and ‘growth phase’. AcE Fund invests and partners with SEBI- registered Category I and II AIFs, which are professionally managed and keen to invest in biotech sector. The Daughter Funds commit to invest in the Biotech startups & SMEs 2x of BIRAC’s committed investment in the Funds. Biotech sub–sectors include Healthcare, Life Sciences, Pharma, Biopharma, Med-tech, Diagnostics, Industrial-Biotech, Agri-tech, Bio-IT/Services and allied areas.
BioAngels Program
PlatformA public-private partnership with Indian Angel Network (IAN) to create a platform for seed and early-stage investing in biotech startups.
BioAngels platform - A unique example of public private partnership association of BIRAC and Indian Angel Network (IAN). This is expected to be India’s single largest horizontal platform for seed and early-stage investing. This platform will lead to the creation of a consortium of Angels, HNIs, early-stage VCs. Focus: Support Biotech startups including Medtech, Healthtech, Pharma, Agritech & Cleantech startups — to raise angel round and engage with Investors who also bring deep domain expertise.

About BIRAC
BIRAC — बायोटेक्नोलॉजी इंडस्ट्री रिसर्च असिस्टेंस काउंसिल
बायोटेक्नोलॉजी इंडस्ट्री रिसर्च असिस्टेंस काउंसिल (BIRAC) एक गैर-लाभकारी, धारा 8, अनुसूची बी सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र का उद्यम है, जिसकी स्थापना 2012 में जैव प्रौद्योगिकी विभाग (DBT), विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी मंत्रालय, भारत सरकार द्वारा की गई थी। BIRAC एक उद्योग-अकादमिक इंटरफ़ेस एजेंसी के रूप में कार्य करता है ताकि उभरते हुए बायोटेक उद्यमों को राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर प्रासंगिक उत्पाद विकास आवश्यकताओं को पूरा करने वाले रणनीतिक अनुसंधान और नवाचार करने के लिए सशक्त और मजबूत किया जा सके।
कार्यक्रम
BIG (Biotechnology Ignition Grant): BIRAC की प्रमुख योजना प्रारंभिक-चरण के स्टार्टअप्स को Proof of Concept प्राप्त करने के लिए 18 महीनों में ₹50 लाख तक का अनुदान प्रदान करती है। आवेदन वर्ष में दो बार (1 जनवरी और 1 जुलाई) जारी किए जाते हैं, जो लगभग 45 दिनों के लिए खुले रहते हैं, और देशभर में 8 BIG पार्टनर संस्थानों के माध्यम से प्रबंधित किए जाते हैं।
BioNEST: 94 बायो-इन्क्यूबेशन और प्री-इन्क्यूबेशन केंद्रों का एक नेटवर्क जो पूरे भारत में 10,34,470 वर्ग फुट से अधिक इन्क्यूबेशन स्थान प्रदान करता है।
SITARE & E-YUVA: छात्र और युवा नवोन्मेषी-नेतृत्व वाले बायोटेक विचारों को लक्षित करने वाले कार्यक्रम।
SBIRI & BIPP: देर-चरण के उत्पाद विकास और उद्योग साझेदारियों के लिए अनुदान और ऋण।
PACE: प्रयोगशाला से क्लिनिक तक के अंतरालों को पाटने वाला अनुवाद अनुसंधान वित्तपोषण।
इक्विटी कार्यक्रम: SEED Fund, LEAP Fund, BioAngels Program, और AcE Fund of Funds (₹174.5 करोड़ का कोष 16 सहायक निधियों में तैनात किया गया है, जिसमें 102 से अधिक बायोटेक स्टार्टअप्स को ₹349 करोड़+ प्रतिबद्ध किए गए हैं)।

BIRAC ने प्रत्यक्ष फंडिंग में ₹4,200 करोड़ लगाए हैं और कुल निवेश में ₹7,000 करोड़ का उत्प्रेरण किया है। BIG अनुदानों ने सैकड़ों बायोटेक नवाचारों के लिए Proof-of-Concept को वित्तपोषित किया है। इक्विटी योजनाओं ने 159 स्टार्टअप्स का समर्थन किया है, जिसमें कुल फंडिंग के माध्यम से 98 स्टार्टअप्स से ₹737 करोड़ का फॉलो-ऑन जुटाया गया है, और संयुक्त पोर्टफोलियो मूल्यांकन ₹75,000 करोड़ से अधिक है। कुल मिलाकर, BIRAC ने 5,000+ स्टार्टअप्स का समर्थन किया है, 1,350+ IPs जेनरेट किए हैं, 900+ उत्पादों का समर्थन किया है और 35,000+ नौकरियां पैदा की हैं।

BIRAC किसी भी भारतीय बायोटेक, बायोफार्मा, मेडटेक, या एग्री-बायोटेक स्टार्टअप के लिए प्रमुख फंडर है — प्रारंभिक अवधारणा वाले छात्रों (SITARE/BIG) से लेकर इक्विटी चाहने वाली विकास-चरण की कंपनियों (LEAP Fund) तक। BIG के लिए आवेदन BIRAC द्वारा पैनल में शामिल BIG पार्टनर संस्थानों के माध्यम से जमा किए जाने चाहिए। स्टार्टअप्स को भारत में प्राइवेट लिमिटेड कंपनियों, LLPs, या Section 8 संस्थाओं के रूप में शामिल किया जाना चाहिए।
