How selection works: applications are screened, then reviewed at two levels. Shortlisted applicants pitch to the incubator's team and senior members, online or in person. The business plan then goes to at least two external experts — domain specialists, investors, industry people or likely users — who give feedback and recommendations. A selection committee makes the final decision, which the incubator states is final and comes with no obligation to give reasons. Selected teams sign incubation agreements and report progress quarterly.

It is run online, with sessions on Saturdays, and is meant to give idea-stage innovators a foundation before they attempt full incubation. The published cohort is Spark 1.0, and applications are taken during a call-for-applications window rather than continuously.
The programme's stated length is inconsistent across its own pages — eighteen weeks in the lead, forty-five to sixty days further down, and twelve months on the incubator's about page — so ask what the current cohort actually runs.

ProtoNest is the incubator's makerspace, run as a membership rather than a programme. It is the way to use the labs if you are not an incubated startup, and it carries no funding and no equity relationship.
The space is organised into zones: a tinkering and IoT lab, a wood zone, a test and measurement lab, an AR/VR area, a design room, a drones wing, rapid prototyping and AI/ML. It is open six days a week, from nine in the morning until eight at night, except second Saturdays and public holidays.

DST's own published "List of TBIs and NIDHI TBIs" records this incubator at entry 148, naming JNTUH College of Engineering Hyderabad as the host institute and JNTUH Innovation Foundation as the incubator (registered entity), category NIDHI-TBI, checked 24 September 2026. The incubator also calls itself a DST-funded incubator on its own about page. The DST list has no sanction date, no period and no status column, so whether the funding is current cannot be told from it.
