StartupTN – Tamil Nadu Startup and Innovation Mission (TANSIM)

StartupTN, officially the Tamil Nadu Startup and Innovation Mission (TANSIM), is the nodal agency of the Government of Tamil Nadu operating under the MSME Department. Incorporated on 30 March 2021, it was revived with a fresh mandate to transform Tamil Nadu into a globally competitive startup destination.

Mission

StartupTN's mission is to build a vibrant, inclusive, and globally connected innovation ecosystem across Tamil Nadu. It empowers entrepreneurs at every stage — from ideation and validation to scaling — by providing mentorship, capacity building, capital access, market linkages, and physical infrastructure. The agency places particular emphasis on inclusive growth, actively supporting women founders, rural innovators, and entrepreneurs from marginalised communities.

Scale & Impact

Since its revived launch in 2021, StartupTN has driven remarkable growth in the state's startup ecosystem. The number of DPIIT-registered startups from Tamil Nadu surged from approximately 2,300 in 2021 to over 12,200 by 2025 — more than 5× growth in four years. StartupTN has secured ₹80 crore in government funding and formed partnerships with over 200 venture capital firms.

• Sectoral Forums: Dedicated forums for Blue Economy, Healthcare & Life Sciences, Industry 4.0 & Advanced Manufacturing.
• TNGSS (Tamil Nadu Global Startup Summit): Annual flagship event bringing together founders, investors, corporates, and policymakers globally.
• Villgro × StartupTN: A partnership to support social and rural innovation startups.

Who Should Apply

StartupTN is the primary entry point for any startup based in or looking to establish in Tamil Nadu. Particularly strong for founders in manufacturing, HealthTech, AgriTech, and Blue Economy sectors. Women-led startups and social innovators receive dedicated support tracks. DPIIT-recognised startups under 10 years old with turnover under ₹100 crore are the primary target cohort.
