How to apply to Wainganga College of Engineering and Management
Choosing the right entry point
WIF runs two different doors: the open, rolling incubation application for startups that want space and mentorship at its Nagpur facility, and RASTA, a periodic national challenge with cash prizes and a fixed incubation award for winners. If you already have a working prototype or a market-ready product and want to compete for a prize plus two years of incubation, look for the next RASTA cycle. If you just want ongoing incubation support, apply through the standing form.
How applications work
The rolling incubation form asks for your full name, the venture or idea's name, a phone number, an email address, your company's incorporation number, your website and your sector. Having a registered company and a working site or product ready to show will put you ahead, since the form itself is built around already-existing ventures rather than raw ideas.
What RASTA looks for
RASTA is explicit that it wants working prototypes, validated products or market-ready innovations — pure idea submissions are not what the challenge is built for. It runs across artificial intelligence, deep-tech, defence, health-tech, agri-tech, ed-tech, manufacturing and sustainability, so founders in adjacent sectors are also worth applying if the underlying tech fits one of those categories.
Before you apply
WIF's own pages don't spell out fees, equity terms or a formal selection process, so it's worth emailing wif@wcem.edu.in to confirm these before committing time to an application.
About Wainganga College of Engineering and Management
Wainganga Incubation Foundation (WIF) is the startup incubation arm of Wainganga College of Engineering and Management (WCEM), a NAAC 'A' accredited engineering college near Gumgaon railway station on Wardha Road, outside Nagpur, Maharashtra. WIF runs on its own site and out of a dedicated facility on the WCEM campus, separate from the college's teaching departments, and its supported companies are mostly already-registered private limited firms rather than only student projects.
How the incubation program works
Founders apply through an online form that asks for the venture's name, sector, a company incorporation number and a website, which points to WIF taking applications from startups that already exist, not only ideas from WCEM students. The application, cost and equity terms, and the selection process are not spelled out on WIF's own pages, so a founder applying should confirm these directly before assuming anything about fees or ownership.
Beyond the open incubation intake, WIF also runs RASTA, a national startup and innovation challenge. RASTA is pitched at startups and innovators from anywhere in India, and unlike many college-run competitions it only accepts working prototypes, validated products or market-ready innovations — idea-only submissions are not considered. It covers artificial intelligence, deep-tech, defence, health-tech, agri-tech, ed-tech, manufacturing and sustainability. Winners get cash prizes and two years of incubation support at WIF, including mentorship, infrastructure, networking and access to the wider ecosystem. WIF also runs recurring events such as an IDE Bootcamp for schoolteachers, hackathons, ideathons, masterclasses and mentorship clinics, though these are not incubation intakes in themselves.
Who can apply
WIF's listed roster of supported startups spans agritech, wellness and manufacturing, fintech, edtech, defence-tech, health-tech, deep-tech, IT and SaaS, climate and energy tech, and food and beverages — more than 40 named companies, most carrying "Pvt Ltd" in their names. That spread, together with the incorporation-number field on the application form and RASTA's explicit nationwide scope, points to a program that is open beyond WCEM's own student body, even though its own pages never state an eligibility policy in so many words.
Facilities
WIF's facility is 5,000 sq/ft, with workspace stated for more than 50 startups, an AI lab, a Fab Lab, cubicles and workstations with high-speed internet, a 50-plus capacity seminar hall, a conference room, separate cabins for the CEO and manager, and a campus cafeteria.
Who runs it
WIF is chaired by Dr. Somadatta Karanjekar, with Dr. Pradeep Dahikar as Director and Ms. Nidhi Bawashe as Chief Executive Officer; Prof. Ravindra Raut serves as Administrative Officer. A nine-member board of advisors backs the team. WCEM itself sits under Wainganga Bahu-Uddeshiya Vikas Sanstha, an education trust founded in 1990 by Dr. Brahmanand B. Karanjekar and Dr. Mrs. Vrunda B. Karanjekar that now runs 16 schools and colleges. WIF partners with ACIC IIT (ISM) Dhanbad for technical mentorship, BIONEST DMIHER Wardha on biotech and bioengineering, the Entrepreneurship Cell at IIT Kharagpur, Advantage Vidarbha, TiE Udaipur, ISBA and the Vidarbha Industries Association, and has hosted an AICTE-backed IDE Bootcamp for PM SHRI Schools.
Location
WIF operates from the WCEM campus near Gumgaon railway station, Dongargaon, Post-Gumgaon, Wardha Road, Nagpur, Maharashtra 441108. It has not published a founding or inauguration year for the foundation itself.
Careers and events
WIF takes open applications for roles from both academia and industry through a short interest form, separate from its startup intake. Besides RASTA, its event calendar includes an inauguration, hackathons, ideathons, masterclasses, mentorship clinics, conclaves and school visits, and it has run an AICTE-backed Innovation, Design & Entrepreneurship bootcamp for teachers and principals from PM SHRI Schools.
