About Betatron

Betatron Venture Group is an early-stage venture capital fund that invests in exit-focused, asset-light B2B technology companies from Hong Kong and Singapore. The fund is not open to India-based founders unless their company operates in Hong Kong or Singapore, so check the eligibility line before you apply. It has teams in both cities and began as a Hong Kong-focused accelerator before it became a fund.

How the fund invests

Betatron invests in early-stage technology companies serving manufacturing, logistics, construction, finance, trade, communications and environmental technology. It makes first investments in seed to Series A funding rounds and can also make follow-on investments. The fund looks for companies operating or incorporated in Singapore or Hong Kong that run B2B asset-light technology businesses disrupting large, traditional industries in Asia, including manufacturing, finance, construction, environmental technology, trade and healthcare.

Beyond the investment, the team says it helps founders vet key hires, unlock working capital and open doors to major players in the region. Most portfolio companies are hiring, selling and growing across several Asian markets, so the team also helps founders build the people and processes needed for cross-border enterprise sales and negotiations. It hosts sector events such as Warehouse Logistics Day, where founders compare what works in different markets.

Who can apply

Betatron's stated focus is companies operating or incorporated in Singapore or Hong Kong. A company based outside those two cities, including one incorporated in India, falls outside that focus unless it operates in one of them.

How to apply

Use the "Send us your deck" button on the website. The deck should run 10 - 15 slides in English and explain what the company does, the problem it solves, the size of the market, how it differs from competitors, traction to date in USD, and who the founders are. Betatron does not sign NDAs, so do not share trade secrets or highly sensitive information in the deck. A founder who was declined in the past can submit updated information for a fresh review.

Betatron reviews a startup in stages. It first collects information about the company, then invites the founders to pitch on a live video call, then runs a deeper due diligence process. The time this takes varies by startup, and the team may take a week or two to reply with next steps.

History

The programme started as a Hong Kong-focused accelerator. Its 2020-2021 cohort was its 6th and last, and it had made 45 investments out of three separate micro funds. The fund's founders then built a venture capital fund, and in May 2022 it announced a first close. In its second year the accelerator ranked #1 accelerator in Hong Kong and #2 across Asia in the PitchDeck Asia Survey, by its own account. Betatron was also selected, after an almost two-year long tendering process, as one of a small group of Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Venture Fund (ITVF) partners.
