About this grant
The Pollination Project is a global foundation dedicated to fostering social and environmental change by providing seed funding to grassroots changemakers. Since its inception in 2012, TPP has supported over 6,000 projects across 120 countries, driven by a vision for a kinder, more compassionate world. The foundation believes in empowering individuals, informally organized groups, and early-stage non-profits whose volunteer-led initiatives address critical global challenges. These challenges span a wide array of categories, including planetary and human health, climate resilience, environmental regeneration, equity and dignity, empowerment of women and girls, human rights, social justice, and animal protection.
The program operates on a rolling basis, allowing changemakers to apply for grants as their ideas evolve. Funding decisions are made by a dedicated team of volunteer grant advisors, many of whom are former TPP grantees themselves, ensuring a community-centric approach to evaluation. Beyond financial support, grantees become part of an expansive global network, gaining access to capacity-building resources, networking opportunities, and pathways to future funding. This holistic support model is designed to amplify the impact of early-stage projects and nurture a vibrant ecosystem of social innovation.

Selection Process
Applications are rigorously evaluated by a team of volunteer grant advisors, many of whom are former TPP grantees themselves. These advisors leverage their personal experience in similar geographies or issue areas to assess each proposal. Key criteria include the applicant's personal connection to the problem, the project's potential for creating significant impact and ripple effects, evidence of strong community roots and support, a resourceful and realistic budget, clear growth potential, and a well-articulated proposal that conveys purpose, creativity, and commitment. A referee contact is required for international applicants and will be consulted during the final review stage.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I or my group/organization receive more than one seed grant from TPP?
No. To maximize the reach and support as many grassroots changemakers as possible, TPP restricts seed funding to first-time recipients. This applies even if the proposed work is distinct from a previously funded project by another member of your group.
My project involves distributing food that contains animal products (e.g., a food bank); can I apply for a TPP grant?
Yes, you may apply for projects like food banks that distribute food containing animal products. TPP can fund infrastructure costs such as shelving for such initiatives. However, the grant funds cannot be used to directly pay for animal products, any activity promoting their consumption, projects focused on health recommending animal products, or events where animal products are served.
My proposal was not funded by TPP. Can I apply for funding more than once?
Yes. If your application was declined, you may reapply. It is strongly advised to reassess your project against TPP's criteria and ensure your resubmission is as detailed and specific as possible. You must also inform TPP that a previous application was submitted for the work.
What is expected of me if I receive a grant?
Grantees are expected to diligently execute their proposed project, submit a comprehensive report detailing achievements, lessons learned, and fund utilization (including all receipts), and provide photos or videos showcasing their project. Grantees must also allow their project to be publicized by The Pollination Project and adhere to the funding restrictions outlined in their contract.
Will I have to pay taxes on the grant money?
TPP cannot provide personal tax advice. However, if grant money is used solely for qualified project purposes and no funds are used to pay the grantee or their family, TPP will not issue a 1099 or report grant income to the IRS. U.S.-based grantees who fail to submit receipts and reporting will have their grant reported as taxable income to the IRS.
Is there a fixed deadline for applications?
No, applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year, with a brief closure at year-end. Applications received by the last day of the month are reviewed the following month, with decisions typically communicated within 6-12 weeks.
