NewGen IEDC (campus innovation and entrepreneurship centre)
A programme by NewGen IEDC (New Generation Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre)
A DST-NSTEDB scheme under which EDII selects universities and engineering, technology and science colleges to set up an innovation and entrepreneurship centre on campus; the centre funds and mentors student project teams. Money goes to the institution, not to a founder.

About NewGen IEDC (campus innovation and entrepreneurship centre)
This is how a campus gets a NewGen IEDC. EDII selects the host institution, the institution sets up the centre, and the centre then works through a five-year plan of student projects, mentors and campus activities. A founder does not apply to it; a college or university does, and its students benefit once the centre exists.
What you get
- For the institution: set-up support from NSTEDB and running support for the centre over five years
- For student teams at the host: project funding covering mentor guidance, a stipend for the student group, and raw materials, prototype development and outside vendor or consultant costs
- Mentorship and campus activities such as innovation camps and business plan competitions, with industry and alumni involved
- A working base on campus, with the dedicated space, workshops, laboratories and library the scheme asks the host to provide
Who can apply
- A university or deemed university, or an institute or college offering engineering, technology or science courses at degree level or above
- Those courses should have run for at least five years
- At least two faculty members trained through the DST-sponsored Faculty Development Programme
- About 5,000 square feet of dedicated space, with workshops, laboratories and a library
- A private institution must be promoted by a registered trust or society and be recognised or affiliated to AICTE or a university
How selection works: A sub-committee evaluates the proposals. Shortlisted institutions are invited to present to a National Expert Advisory Committee constituted by DST, which recommends the institutions to be supported.
How to apply: Institutions submitted an online proposal to EDII through the programme website, with a certificate from the Head of Institution and acceptance of the scheme's terms and conditions. No call is open on the site; the last dated announcement there is for 2019-20.
