How to apply to Rockstart Agrifood
Choosing the right route
- The Startup Support Package suits agrifood startups that have an MVP and early traction.
- Investment is considered for startups that go through the support package. Ask about the initial investment terms before you apply.
- The Biochar and Food Circularity networks are membership and event routes, not investment routes.
How applications work
- Applications are accepted year-round through the Rockstart Startup Application Form.
- Have your team, your traction evidence (pilots, customers or users) and your mission statement ready before you start.
How selection works
- The founding team is assessed first, including whether the skills complement each other and whether the team dynamic is strong.
- Traction matters: the site expects some signs of customers, users or pilots, not just an idea.
- Innovation is judged on execution. The idea does not need to be original, but the execution has to be distinctive.
What reviewers look for
- A clear mission for driving positive change in agrifood, not only a commercial opportunity.
- A team that already runs a business, or one that has a credible plan to build out its team.
About Rockstart Agrifood
Rockstart AgriFood is the agrifood arm of Rockstart, a privately backed early-stage investor founded in 2011. It backs purpose-driven founders building agritech and foodtech solutions that improve the food system from soil to gut, and it pairs investment with a support package that runs for 6 to 12 months.
How the programme works
The core offer is the Startup Support Package. It combines domain-focused content and mentorship, introductions to potential customers and partners, and hands-on access to experts in agrifood, energy and technology. Support is shaped around the team's bandwidth, so founders can apply what they learn at their own pace. Rockstart also says it tailors the package to each team, matching founders with mentors, experts and coaches who fit their challenges.
When the initial support period ends, selected startups become Rockstart portfolio companies. They keep access to the wider network, including online investor and corporate events, mentor support and introductions to possible partners and investors. Rockstart also co-invests alongside lead investors in later rounds, with the stated aim of supporting companies up to Series B.
Who can apply
Rockstart looks for startups that have built at least a minimum viable product and can show some signs of traction, such as pilots, customers or users. It prefers founding teams that already run a business and have early commercial traction. It will talk to single founders who are still building a team, but it does not invest in ideas where the startup has not yet started work. Founders with only an idea are still welcome to get in touch, and the team can keep an eye on progress and suggest next steps.
Selection weighs the founding team first, including complementary skills, a deep passion for the work and a track record. Innovation matters too: the execution of an idea needs to be distinctive, and the startup needs a clear mission for driving positive change in its domain.
The programme's public pages do not name a country restriction, and they do not describe an India-specific intake. Founders do not have to relocate to receive support once they are selected.
Areas of interest
Rockstart says it is especially interested in alternative packaging and proteins, smart fulfilment and logistics, bio alternatives to chemicals and plastic, precision food production, data and vertical data libraries, production capacity growth tools, upcycled products, tools to sequester CO2, supply chain traceability, molecular farming and genomics, impact certification in carbon markets, and human health.
Investment terms
Startups accepted into the programme receive an initial investment. The site describes that instrument in two different ways: as a SAFE (simple agreement for future equity) in one place, and as a convertible note in another. Confirm the current terms directly with Rockstart before relying on either description.
Scale and track record
The site reports 368 startups invested in and 9 exits. Its AgriFood portfolio page lists 57 companies. Rockstart also reports more than 200 investors, more than 60 mentors and more than 30 corporate partners across its ecosystem, and 974 full-time jobs created across its funds. These are figures the organisation reports about itself, and they cover the wider Rockstart group as well as AgriFood.
Locations and networks
Rockstart is based in Amsterdam, with offices in Copenhagen and Bogota. It runs in-person Community Weeks for portfolio companies, with past editions in Copenhagen and Amsterdam. Rockstart describes itself as a place for startups to grow internationally, and it offers a mix of in-person events and remote content.
Rockstart also runs two Denmark-based membership networks: the Biochar Network and the Food Circularity Network. These are for stakeholders in those sectors, including startups, investors, corporates and researchers. They are separate from the AgriFood support package and from AgriFood investment.
