Is professional tax applicable in Chhattisgarh?
Chhattisgarh's professional tax Act is still on the books, but a notification of 31 March 2011 exempts everyone from it from 1 April 2011, so nothing is collected.
Some payroll sites print the Act's schedule (up to ₹208 a month) as if it were collected. It is not, while the exemption stands.
What this means for an employer
- There is nothing to deduct from salaries for employees who work in Chhattisgarh.
- You do not need a professional tax registration in Chhattisgarh.
- Employees who work from another state are taxed there: the state of work decides, not where the company is registered. Use the calculator for that state.
