AMU Innovation Foundation's inclusive Technology Business Incubator, known as BGENs, supports students, faculty and early-stage entrepreneurs at Aligarh Muslim University. It focuses on healthcare, sustainable energy technology and nanomaterials.

Best for: Individual innovators and early-stage start-ups in India that need money to build a physical prototype.

What you get, who can apply and how to apply

The Ignition Grant helps individual innovators and early-stage start-ups turn an idea into a prototype or product that could be commercialised.

What you get

  • A grant-in-aid to build the prototype, subject to approval by the Screening and Monitoring Committee

Who can apply

  • Individual innovators who have no start-up yet, and co-founders of early-stage start-ups
  • Indian citizens aged 18 or over
  • For a start-up: incorporated in India, at least 51% of equity held by Indian citizens, no more than 2 years old, and annual turnover within the eligibility limit

How selection works: Proposals are invited through an open call. The Screening and Monitoring Committee selects candidates on the criteria above.

How to apply: Submit a proposal through the open call. The guidelines require a physical prototype that can be finished in 12 to 14 months, with a road map to commercialisation. Any IP generated vests with the innovators or start-up.

Seed loan (ICUIC)

Loan

A seed loan from the incubation centre for incubated companies, subject to available funds.

Best for: Incubated companies that have run for three months and have revenue or orders.

What you get, who can apply and how to apply

The Innovation Council and University Incubation Centre may give a seed loan to incubated companies, subject to available funds.

Who can apply

  • Companies that have been incubated at AMUIF for at least three months
  • Companies that already have some revenue or customer orders are given preference

How selection works: Being admitted to the incubator does not guarantee a seed loan. The loan may be approved with the admission, but disbursement follows the Screening and Monitoring Committee being satisfied with progress.

How to apply: Apply for the seed loan after three months of incubation through the AMUIF office.
