Programmes they run

Standing programmes at JSS STEP Noida, separate from the funding calls above.

A twelve-month cohort programme for technology startups, taking a small equity stake and releasing seed capital against milestones.

Best for: Technology startups past the idea stage with at least two co-founders and a validated problem, wanting a structured year with capital, workspace and investor access

  • Prototype – Early revenue
  • 12 months
  • In person
  • Takes equity
What you get, who can apply and how to apply

This is the incubator's main route for founders. It runs twelve months with a cohort of fifteen startups, takes a small equity stake, and commits seed capital that is released in tranches as milestones are met rather than paid up front.

What you get

  • Seed capital released in stages against agreed milestones
  • A desk or a furnished cabin in the plug-and-play office, with meeting rooms, leased-line internet, full power backup and round-the-clock access
  • Mentoring at three levels — leadership, technology and business model, and domain expertise
  • Technical due diligence: architecture validation, code review, performance and scalability
  • Introductions to angel investors, venture capital funds and corporate investors, and demo day pitching at the end of the year
  • Help getting corporate research and development projects to co-create pilots on

Who can apply

  • Ventures with a technology or scientific innovation at their core
  • Teams with at least two dedicated co-founders
  • Founders who have already validated the problem they are solving
  • Anyone — there is no requirement to be a student, alumnus or employee of the host college

How selection works: the first phase is an application and screen. You submit the online form setting out your product vision, the size of the market you are targeting and who is on your core team, together with an initial pitch deck. Further phases follow. The incubator says it evaluates entries every two weeks.

How to apply: fill in the application form on the incubator's own site. It takes you through four steps — founder profile, startup details, business model, then review and submit. If you want to talk to someone first, the general enquiries inbox is info@jssstepnoida.in, and the contact form lets you flag your message as being about the application process or about arranging a campus visit.

The intake dates printed on the incubator's pages have all passed and disagree with one another, so ask the team when the next cohort starts rather than relying on them.

Full Incubation Program guide

A six-month sprint for startups that already have traction, taking an equity stake and working towards a Series A round.

Best for: Startups with proven traction that want to scale quickly and raise a Series A round

  • Early revenue – Growth
  • 6 months
  • In person
  • Takes equity
What you get, who can apply and how to apply

This is the step up from incubation. It runs six months with a cohort of ten startups and takes an equity stake, larger than the incubation programme's. It is aimed at companies that have proven traction and want to scale quickly.

What you get

  • Growth capital in exchange for equity
  • Strategic partnerships brokered by the incubator
  • Introductions to venture capital funds and angel investors
  • Work on Series A readiness, with follow-on support after the sprint

Who can apply

  • Startups with proven traction, ready to scale rapidly
  • The same core admissions criteria as the incubation programme: a technology or scientific innovation at the core, at least two dedicated co-founders, and a validated problem

How to apply: the same online application form covers this programme. If you are unsure whether you belong here or in the twelve-month incubation cohort, write to info@jssstepnoida.in first and describe your traction — the two differ in length, in cohort size and in how much equity they take.

The cohort start date printed on the programme page has already passed, so confirm the current one with the team.

Full Acceleration Program guide

Rolling one-to-one mentoring for founders at any stage who want expert advice without joining a full incubation cohort.

Best for: Founders at any stage who want structured one-to-one mentoring without joining an incubation cohort

  • 3 to 6 months
  • Hybrid
What you get, who can apply and how to apply

Admissions are rolling, so you can apply at any time. It runs three to six months and is open to startups at any stage. The incubator positions it for founders who need expert advice without committing to full incubation.

What you get

  • One-to-one mentor sessions every two weeks, each 60 to 90 minutes
  • Sessions virtual or in person, scheduled as you need them
  • A mentor matched to you after a discovery and goal-setting month
  • Access to the incubator's network and learning resources

Who can apply

  • Founders at any stage — there is no prototype or revenue bar stated for this programme
  • Founders wanting help on a specific problem such as product, marketing, fundraising or operations

How selection works: the first month is a discovery phase covering goal setting, a baseline assessment, mentor matching and an action plan. The following months move through strategy, implementation, refining what works, and a closing review with a forward roadmap and transition into the alumni network.

How to apply: use the same online application form, or write to info@jssstepnoida.in. Because admissions are rolling there is no deadline.

Labs & facilities

Equipment and space on campus.

The incubator gives the size of its premises three different ways across its own pages, so no area is stated here. The cabins, desks and equipment below are consistently described.

Plug-and-play incubation office

Dedicated desks and furnished cabins seating six to eighteen, with meeting and discussion rooms, a conference hall, a seminar hall and a reception lounge. Leased-line internet, full power backup on generator and UPS, access control, CCTV, round-the-clock security, housekeeping and free parking.

Desks and flexible space

Flexible space or a dedicated cabin, open round the clock, air-conditioned, with a cafeteria and pantry on site.

Makerspace

3D printers, laser cutting and engraving machines, wire electrical discharge machining and measuring and quality-control instruments, with prototype development support, technical feasibility and material selection guidance, and workshops in 3D printing, laser cutting and design thinking.

Campus laboratories

Access via JSS Academy of Technical Education, Noida

Incubated companies get access to the college's computer, IT, electronics and mechanical laboratories, and to the campus auditorium.

Support services

Help offered alongside funding and space.

Business advisory

In-house mentoring at three levels: leadership development, technology and business model, and domain or industry expertise. The incubator also runs technical due diligence — architecture validation, code review, performance and scalability.

Market access

Go-to-market is what the incubator says it is for, particularly selling into corporates, government and non-profits in India. It brokers corporate research and development projects so startups can co-create pilots, and arranges meetups with angel, venture capital, high-net-worth and corporate investors.

Legal & finance

Accounts and legal documentation support and facilitation, plus HR assistance and access to a pool of interns from the campus.

Recognitions & empanelments

Official approvals this incubator holds.

The incubator also describes its makerspace as a NIDHI PRAYAS certified lab and lists several awards. Those are not repeated here: DST publishes no register of PRAYAS centres to check them against, and the pages carrying them also carry figures that contradict the rest of the site.

Technology Business Incubator recognised by DST–NSTEDB· 2004

The incubator says it was recognised as a Technology Business Incubator by the National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board, Department of Science & Technology, in 2004, and that it was set up in 2000 with DST support. Its host college and JSS Mahavidyapeetha both say the same. It is also listed in DST NIDHI's own published list of Technology Business Incubators, under the category TBI, with its Noida address and its thrust areas given as information technology, IoT and artificial intelligence. Whether the recognition still carries funding cannot be told — neither the incubator nor DST's list publishes a sanction period, and that list is dated January 2023.

How to apply to JSS STEP Noida

Check you are on the live site first

The address printed for this incubator in most places — including its own host college's page and the government's published list of incubators — is a .org domain that no longer works. Email sent to that domain bounces. Use the incubator's current .in site and the general enquiries inbox on its contact page. If you have written to the old address and heard nothing, that is why.

Make sure the programme fits you

Three programmes, and they are not interchangeable. The twelve-month Incubation Program is for companies past the idea stage and takes a small equity stake, with money committed against milestones and paid out in stages rather than up front. The six-month Acceleration Program is for companies that already have traction and are aiming at a Series A; it takes a larger stake and runs a smaller cohort. The Mentorship Program takes rolling applications, is open at any stage, and is the one to pick if you want structured advice rather than a residency — it is also the fastest to start, since there is no cohort to wait for. If you are not willing to give up equity at all, start there. Separately, the incubator describes a longer staged incubation arrangement that can be physical or virtual, and a prototyping makerspace you can ask for access to on its own, so say what you actually want when you first write in.

Who they say they are looking for

Three things are stated: technology or scientific innovation at the core, at least two committed co-founders, and a problem statement you have already validated. A solo founder is the most common mismatch here — if you are one, have a straight answer about your co-founder plans before you apply. You do not need any connection to the host college.

The application

It is an online form in four parts: your founder profile, your startup's details, your business model, and a review before you submit. Have a pitch deck ready — the first screening step asks for one alongside the form, covering your product vision, the size of the market you are going after, and who is on your core team. The incubator says it reviews entries every two weeks, so there is no single deadline to race; the dates printed on its pages are out of date and should not be used to decide when to apply.

What reviewers are weighing

The incubator says it works with post-ideation ventures at technology readiness level 6 and above, which means it expects a demonstrated technology, not a concept. Its stated strength is go-to-market, particularly selling into corporates, government and non-profits in India, so a clear account of who your first buyer is and why they would buy will land better than a technology description alone. Its portfolio has been overwhelmingly software, with a focus on IoT, AI and machine learning, computer vision, robotics, drones, blockchain, AR/VR and quantum computing — expect the technical questions to be deepest there.

Ask about the things the site does not settle

Before you commit, ask for the current cohort dates, the current equity terms in writing, how long its DST recognition runs, and how many companies it has active right now. The published figures on those points contradict each other, and the team is the only reliable source for them.

Visiting

The incubator is on the JSS Academy of Technical Education campus in Sector-62, Noida, and offers campus tours and visits. Going in person is worth it if you are weighing a residency, because the desk, cabin and lab arrangements are easier to judge in the building than from a page.

About JSS STEP Noida

JSS STEP Noida is the Science & Technology Entrepreneurs Park on the campus of JSS Academy of Technical Education in Sector-62, Noida. It was set up in 2000 with support from the Department of Science & Technology and its National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board, and was recognised as a Technology Business Incubator in 2004. It appears on DST's own published list of Technology Business Incubators, which records its thrust areas as information technology, IoT and artificial intelligence.

How programmes work

The incubator runs three named programmes. The twelve-month Incubation Program is the main route: it takes a small equity stake in the companies it selects, and the seed capital it commits is released in tranches against milestones rather than in one payment. The six-month Acceleration Program is for startups that already have traction and want to scale towards a Series A round; it takes a larger stake and runs with a smaller cohort. The Mentorship Program is separate from both — rolling admissions, three to six months, open to founders at any stage, built around one-to-one sessions every two weeks rather than a residency. The published roadmap runs in two-month blocks: workspace setup, mentor matching and business-model work; MVP development and product design sprints; a beta launch with user feedback and market validation; customer acquisition, marketing and revenue; team expansion, process work and financial modelling; and finally demo day preparation and investor pitches. An incubation cohort is described as fifteen startups, an acceleration cohort as ten.

Alongside the cohort, the incubator runs a makerspace for prototyping. It is fitted with 3D printers, laser cutting and engraving machines, wire electrical discharge machining and a set of measuring and quality-control instruments, and it offers prototype development support, technical feasibility and material selection guidance, and hands-on workshops in 3D printing, laser cutting and design thinking.

An earlier description of the incubator, published on the host college's own site, sets out how it thinks about the ventures it takes: it works with post-ideation companies at technology readiness level 6 and above, and says its focus is getting them to market, usually to corporate, government and non-profit buyers in India. It also describes incubation running physically or virtually over as long as three years through three graded stages, which is a longer arrangement than the twelve-month cohort. Both descriptions are the incubator's own; a founder should ask which applies to them.

Who can apply

The admissions criteria are stated as three things: a technology or scientific innovation at the core of the venture, a minimum of two dedicated co-founders, and a validated problem statement and vision. There is no requirement to be a student, alumnus or employee of JSS Academy of Technical Education, and the application form asks for no institutional affiliation, so founders from outside the campus can apply on the same terms.

Facilities

Startups get a dedicated office desk or a furnished cabin — cabins run from six to eighteen seats — inside a plug-and-play office with meeting and discussion rooms, a conference hall, a seminar hall, a reception lounge, and a cafeteria and pantry. The building has a high-bandwidth leased line, full power backup on a generator and UPS, closed-circuit television, access control, round-the-clock security, housekeeping and free parking. Incubated companies also get access to the host college's computer, IT, electronics and mechanical laboratories, and the campus auditorium.

What the incubator does for startups

Mentoring runs at three levels — leadership development, technology and business model, and domain or industry expertise — using in-house mentors. The incubator offers technical due diligence covering architecture validation, code review, performance and scalability, which is unusual and reflects its software-heavy portfolio. It arranges meetups with angel investors, venture capital funds, high-net-worth individuals and corporate investors, and it brokers research and development work with corporates, putting projects in front of technology startups so they can co-create pilots and products a corporate might then take to its own customers. Back-office help covers accounts and legal documentation, HR assistance and access to a pool of interns from the campus. The incubator says it holds partnerships with more than thirty service providers who work with its startups at a discount.

Where it is, and how to reach it

The incubator is at the JSS Academy of Technical Education campus, C-20/1, Sector-62, Noida, Uttar Pradesh 201301, in Gautam Buddha Nagar district. Its stated office hours are Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm and Saturday from 10am to 4pm. It has a general enquiries inbox and a phone line, and its contact form lets you pick whether you are asking about programmes, the application process, a campus visit or a partnership. Campus visits and tours can be requested.

One practical warning. For years the incubator's website was jssstepnoida.org, and that address is still the one printed on JSS Academy of Technical Education's own page, on the JSS Mahavidyapeetha institutions page, and in DST's published register — where it also supplies the contact address on file. That domain no longer resolves at all, and email to it will not be delivered. The incubator's live site is now at the .in address, and the enquiry inbox on it is the one to use.

A second warning about what you read there. The incubator's pages give the number of startups it has supported four different ways, and give its capital deployed, its success rate and the size of its premises in figures that disagree with each other from one page to the next. Its programme page also carries founder success stories that do not correspond to any company named elsewhere on the site. None of those numbers or stories is repeated here. Treat the incubator's track record as something to ask about directly rather than something the site establishes.

Who runs it

The incubator is led by a chief executive and describes an advisory board of industry experts, but it does not currently publish the names of its team on its site.
