Programmes they run
Standing programmes at CAREER POINT UNIVERISTY, separate from the funding calls above.
Only The Pioneer Incubator takes applications from founders outside the university. The Institution's Innovation Council is internal to students and faculty, the MSME route is applied for on the ministry's own portal, and the Technology Enabling Centre is a technology-transfer function. A fifth item in the university's research menu, "Technov8 Hub", has no page behind it and we have not written it up.
The Pioneer Incubator
IncubationThe university's incubation cell, open to founders anywhere in India, entered by sending a written proposal rather than filling in a form.
Best for: Founders anywhere in India with an idea or an early-stage venture that can scale
- Idea – Early revenue
- In person
- Grant support for selected startups
With Department of Industries, Government of Himachal Pradesh
What you get, who can apply and how to applyHide details
The Pioneer Incubator was set up in the university on 27 September 2019 with the Department of Industries, Government of Himachal Pradesh, under the state's Chief Minister's Start-up / Innovation Projects / New Industries Scheme. No intake window, batch number or deadline is published, so the route reads as open rather than cohort-based.
What you get
- Workspace on the Hamirpur campus
- Mentorship
- Funding support (terms are not published — ask)
- Networking opportunities
- Legal and accounting support
- Marketing and branding help
- Idea validation, business development, technical support, and training and workshops
Who can apply
- Residents of India — the cell states it is open to all of them, not only to university students or Himachal Pradesh residents
- People with an innovative idea, as well as early-stage startups
- Ventures with potential to scale and to have positive impact
- No incorporation requirement is stated
How selection works: a selection committee reviews the proposals that come in, shortlists, and invites shortlisted applicants for an interview. Once in, startups are monitored against milestones with regular feedback, and graduate out of the cell when they reach financial stability and scaling milestones. Graduates are encouraged to return as mentors.
How to apply: send a business plan or project proposal setting out the idea, the market potential and your team's capabilities. There is no online application form. Incubation queries go to cputec@cpuh.edu.in. The incubator states that members' ideas and business plans are kept confidential and are not disclosed to third parties without consent.
MSME Business Incubator
Grant schemeThe university acts as a host institute under the Ministry of MSME's MSME Innovative Scheme; you apply on the ministry's own portal, not through the university.
Best for: Innovators applying under the Ministry of MSME's scheme who need a host institute
- Idea – Prototype
With Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises
What you get, who can apply and how to applyHide details
The MSME Innovative Scheme brings together the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises' incubation, design and intellectual property streams into one route, meant to carry an idea through to a viable business. Career Point University runs the incubation part of it on its Hamirpur campus, with Dr. Asha Kumari as the named nodal officer.
Who can apply
- The university's page describes the national scheme rather than setting its own eligibility rule, so check the ministry's own criteria
- Innovators name a host institute when they apply
How to apply: applications are made on the ministry's own portal at my.msme.gov.in, where you name your host institute — not through a university form. The university's homepage has carried notices for the ministry's MSME Idea Hackathon pointing to that portal.
A caution on the money: the financial figures printed on the university's page are the scheme's terms for payments made to a host institute, including support for nurturing an idea and capital support for plant and machinery. They are not a cheque written to an applicant, and reading them as founder funding would be a mistake.
Technology Enabling Centre
Centre of ExcellenceA Department of Science & Technology centre on campus that moves laboratory technologies towards MSMEs and industry.
Best for: Researchers, innovators and regional MSMEs looking to move a technology towards market
With Department of Science & Technology, Government of India
What you get, who can apply and how to applyHide details
The Technology Enabling Centre was established at Career Point University, Hamirpur by the Department of Science & Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, on 28 March 2023. Its purpose is to build an ecosystem for technology development in universities and to connect researchers and innovators with other institutes, national laboratories and industry.
What it does
- Finds technologies being developed in the university's and other institutes' laboratories
- Assesses what MSMEs in and around the region need
- Judges how mature an identified product or process is
- Studies the market potential of those technologies
- Recommends pilot-stage and joint development to the department
- Assists industry with research and development in dense industry clusters
- Networks with technology development institutions and laboratories, and runs workshops, seminars and exhibitions with industry
Who can apply
- This is a technology-transfer function, not a founder intake. Approach it if you want to license, co-develop or source university technology.
How to apply: no application route is published. The centre's mailbox, cputec@cpuh.edu.in, is also the contact the incubator publishes.
Institution's Innovation Council
PlatformThe campus innovation council for the university's own students and faculty, run under the Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell.
Best for: Career Point University students and faculty
- Idea – Prototype
- In person
With Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell
What you get, who can apply and how to applyHide details
Career Point University set up an Institution's Innovation Council in the 2019-20 academic session, following the guidelines of the Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell. Its purpose is to get students and faculty from an idea to a prototype while they are still studying, and to build a working innovation culture across the campus.
What you get
- Workshops, training programmes and ideation sessions
- Hackathons and innovation contests
- Industry-academia interaction events
- Start-up mentorship programmes and research collaborations
Who can apply
- The university's own students and faculty. This is an internal council, not a route for outside founders — they should look at The Pioneer Incubator instead.
The council reports a 3-STAR rating for 2023-24 and 221 activities since it started, with a year-by-year breakdown on its page that adds up to that total. It draws members from fourteen departments across engineering, sciences, management, law and humanities, alongside industry participants. Nothing on the page is dated after the 2023-24 session.
Support services
Help offered alongside funding and space.
The incubator names its services but publishes no terms for any of them. Whether incubation is charged, whether equity is taken, and what the funding support actually consists of are all unstated — ask before committing.
Business advisory
Mentorship, idea validation, business development and training workshops are named among the incubation cell's services and activities. Startups are monitored against milestones with regular feedback.
Legal & finance
Legal and accounting support is listed among the six services the incubation cell names.
Market access
Networking opportunities, plus marketing and branding support, are listed among the incubation cell's services.
Technology transfer
The Technology Enabling Centre, established by the Department of Science & Technology in March 2023, mines university and institute technologies, assesses their maturity and market potential, and links researchers with national laboratories and industry.
IP & patents
The university lists an IPR Cell under its research directorate, and intellectual property is one of the three streams of the Ministry of MSME scheme the campus participates in. We have not read the cell's own page.
Recognitions & empanelments
Official approvals this incubator holds.
Career Point University makes no claim anywhere on its site to be an Atal Incubation Centre, a NIDHI or DST-NSTEDB technology business incubator, or a DPIIT-recognised incubator, and we record none. Its research menu links to ARIIA, which is a ranking of institutions and not an incubation recognition. Separately, the university states that the Department of Science & Technology established a Technology Enabling Centre on its campus in March 2023 — a technology-transfer centre rather than an incubator recognition, which is why it is described under the centres rather than listed here.
Set up with the Department of Industries, Government of Himachal Pradesh· 2019
The Pioneer Incubator was established on 27 September 2019 under the Chief Minister's Start-up / Innovation Projects / New Industries Scheme, following an MoU between the department and the university. The university states the state provisioned set-up funds but gives no period and no current status, so whether that support is still running cannot be told from its pages.
Host Institute, MSME Innovative Scheme (Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises)
The university runs an MSME Business Incubator page describing the scheme's incubation vertical and naming its own nodal officer. It was separately found listed at entry 32 of the Ministry's published List of Host Institutes for the incubation component of the MSME Innovative Scheme, checked 24 September 2026. That list gives no approval date, no period and no status column, so whether the recognition is current cannot be told from it, and being listed is a capacity registration rather than evidence that any idea has been hosted.
How to apply to CAREER POINT UNIVERISTY
Which door to knock on
The campus has four innovation bodies and only one of them takes applications from outside founders.
- The Pioneer Incubator — this is the one. Open to residents of India with an idea or an early-stage startup.
- Institution's Innovation Council — for the university's own students and faculty. Not an outside intake.
- MSME Business Incubator — you apply on the Ministry of MSME's own portal and name a host institute there, not through the university's website.
- Technology Enabling Centre — a technology-transfer function. Approach it if you want to license or co-develop university technology, not for incubation.
A fifth item, "Technov8 Hub", appears in the university's research menu but has no page behind it. Do not plan around it.
How the application works
- There is no online form. You write and send a proposal.
- Cover the three things the incubator asks for by name: the idea, the market potential, and what your team is capable of.
- A selection committee reviews proposals, shortlists, and calls shortlisted applicants to an interview. Prepare to defend the proposal in person.
- No deadline or batch date is published, so send it when it is ready and follow up.
What to ask before you commit
The incubator's page names its services but not their terms. Get answers in writing on:
- Whether incubation is free or charged, and whether anything is deducted later.
- Whether the incubator takes equity.
- What "funding support" actually means here — who pays, on what basis, and at what stage.
- What the workspace is: where, how many seats, what hours, and whether you need to be on campus.
- Who would mentor you, and how often.
What reviewers are likely to look for
The eligibility line names two things the incubator says it is looking for: potential to scale, and positive impact. The portfolio it describes spans technology, healthcare, education, retail and e-commerce, and manufacturing, so a proposal in any of those has precedent. Given the state-scheme origin and the Technology Enabling Centre's focus on regional MSMEs, work that creates activity in and around Himachal Pradesh is likely to read well, even though no domicile rule is stated.
Practical notes
- Being outside Himachal Pradesh does not disqualify you. The stated rule is all residents of India.
- You do not appear to need an incorporated company — the page invites ideas as well as startups — but confirm this, since it is unstated rather than waived.
- Startups are monitored against milestones and graduate once they are financially stable, so expect a review rhythm rather than an open-ended stay.
- The incubator states that ideas and business plans are kept confidential and not shared with third parties without consent.
About CAREER POINT UNIVERISTY
Career Point University, Hamirpur is a self-financed private university at Bhoranj (Tikker – Kharwarian) in Hamirpur district, Himachal Pradesh. It is backed by the Career Point Group, which also runs Career Point University in Kota, Rajasthan. For founders, the part that matters is The Pioneer Incubator — the university's incubation cell, set up on 27 September 2019 with the Department of Industries, Government of Himachal Pradesh.
The incubator was established under the state's Chief Minister's Start-up / Innovation Projects / New Industries Scheme, following a memorandum of understanding between the department and the university. The state provisioned set-up funds to support entrepreneurial and managerial development of small and medium enterprises and to promote entrepreneurial activity in the region. The university does not say over what period that support runs, or whether it is still flowing, so treat the scheme link as the incubator's origin rather than as a live funding guarantee.
Who can apply
This is the field our own record had wrong, and it is worth being exact about. The incubation cell states that it is open to all residents of India with innovative ideas or early-stage startups that show potential to scale and to have positive impact. It is not restricted to Career Point University students or staff, it is not restricted to Himachal Pradesh residents, and the page sets no requirement that you already have an incorporated company. If you are outside the state and outside the university, you are inside the stated eligibility.
The university runs a separate Institution's Innovation Council, set up in the 2019-20 session under the Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell. That one is internal: its purpose is to get the university's own students and faculty from an idea to a prototype through workshops, hackathons and ideation sessions. Outside founders should apply to the Pioneer Incubator, not the council.
How to apply
There is no online incubation form. You send a business plan or project proposal setting out the idea, the market potential and what your team can do. A selection committee reviews what comes in, shortlists, and invites shortlisted applicants to an interview. No intake window, batch number or deadline is published, so the route appears to be open rather than cohort-based — worth confirming by email before you spend time on a proposal.
What the incubator offers
Six things are named: workspace, mentorship, funding support, networking opportunities, legal and accounting support, and marketing and branding. Its listed activities go a little wider — idea generation and validation, business development, technical support, training and workshops, and funding assistance. The incubator says it monitors startups against milestones and gives regular feedback, that startups graduate once they reach financial stability and scaling milestones, and that graduates are encouraged to come back as mentors. It also states that members' ideas and business plans are kept confidential and are not shared with third parties without consent.
What is not published is the detail underneath any of this. There is no description of the workspace, no seat count, no named mentors, no terms attached to the funding support, and no statement on whether the incubator charges anything or takes equity. Ask about all four before committing.
Other centres on the same campus
Three more innovation bodies sit alongside the incubator, and it helps to know which is which.
The MSME Business Incubator is the university's participation in the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises' MSME Innovative Scheme, which combines the ministry's incubation, design and intellectual property streams. Dr. Asha Kumari is the named nodal officer. Note that the financial terms printed on that page are the scheme's own terms for payments to a host institute — they are not a grant handed to an applicant. Applications under this scheme are made on the ministry's own portal, where an innovator names a host institute; the university's homepage has carried notices for the MSME Idea Hackathon pointing there.
The Technology Enabling Centre was established at the university by the Department of Science & Technology on 28 March 2023. Its job is to find technologies developed in university and institute laboratories, assess what MSMEs in the region actually need, judge how mature a technology is, study its market potential and connect researchers with national laboratories and industry. It is a technology-transfer function rather than a founder intake, but it is the reason the incubator's contact mailbox exists and it is the route for anyone looking to license or co-develop university technology.
The Institution's Innovation Council reports a 3-STAR rating for 2023-24 and 221 activities since it started, broken down year by year on its own page. Nothing on the page is dated after the 2023-24 session.
Scale
Be careful with the numbers here, because the university's pages give two different startup counts that measure different things. The incubator's own page claims more than fifty startups incubated and more than sixty jobs created, both undated and self-reported. The homepage shows a smaller "successful startups" figure, but it sits inside the training and placement statistics block next to average salary offers and companies visited, so it is a placements number rather than a portfolio count. We have published neither as a verified total.
Who runs it
Dr. Rahul Sharma is the nodal officer of The Pioneer Incubator and president of the Institution's Innovation Council, and holds a research leadership role at the university. Dr. Sanjeev K. Sharma, the Vice Chancellor, chairs the Technology Enabling Centre, which is coordinated by Dr. Kuldeep Kumar. Dr. Asha Kumari is nodal officer for the MSME Business Incubator.
Where it is
The campus is at Bhoranj (Tikker – Kharwarian), Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh 176041. The Career Point Group's head office is at CP Tower 1, Road No.1, IPIA, Kota, Rajasthan. The university publishes an admission helpline and general enquiry addresses, and the incubator publishes its own mailbox for incubation queries.
