Programmes they run
Standing programmes at IKN Innovation Foundation, IMI Kolkata, separate from the funding calls above.
The three NEEV programmes are a ladder rather than a menu, separated by how far along your company is. None of them publishes intake dates, so treat them as rolling and ask where the next cohort stands. Grameen Neev and the MSME scheme have their own application routes.

What you get, who can apply and how to applyHide details
A separate accelerator that IKN Innovation Foundation runs with the Grameen Foundation, with its own site and its own application route. It is for social enterprises working in rural and semi-urban India across three tracks: climate action and green livelihoods; health, nutrition and well-being; and digital and financial inclusion. Its pages describe a twelve-month engagement of which six months is the acceleration itself, framed as three months of applications, six months of support and three months of follow-up; the headline on the same site says six months, so check which you are signing up for.
What you get
- A diagnostic assessment of business readiness, leadership capacity and growth gaps
- Capacity-building workshops, including a three-day in-person bootcamp on the business model, financial planning, compliance and go-to-market
- Personalised mentorship from domain experts and industry leaders
- Investor readiness support, including pitch deck preparation and mock pitches
- Market and financial linkages with buyers, partners, lenders and investors
- A demo day with investor connects, and follow-up support afterwards
Who can apply
- Early-stage to growth-stage enterprises, ideally one to three years old
- A working prototype or product, or early market validation
- Some revenue or a clear path to it
- Operating in rural or semi-urban areas, or serving underserved communities
- Working in at least one of the three tracks
- Women-led and women-focused enterprises are encouraged, and a share of each cohort is reserved for them
How selection works: Applications are screened on innovation, impact potential, business viability and team strength. Shortlisted enterprises pitch to a jury of experts before being onboarded into the cohort.
How to apply: Apply on the Grameen Neev site.

Incubation tracks
The routes into IKN Innovation Foundation, IMI Kolkata, and what each one includes.

| AccelerationFour to six months, for revenue-generating startups. No upfront fee; a success fee is taken in equity only on a completed fund raise. | Acceleration | — | Enterprise connects and B2B introductions, Angel syndication network access, End-to-end fundraising support |
Labs & facilities
Equipment and space on campus.
What is published is modest: a co-working area, two meeting rooms and a networking room, plus private offices, board and training rooms described in prose. The incubator's mission statement mentions innovation labs and prototyping facilities, but no lab or workshop is listed anywhere on the site, so do not count on one.
Co-working space
Shared desks in the incubation centre, alongside private offices described on the services page.
Meeting rooms
Two meeting rooms, plus conference and board rooms and training rooms listed on the services page.
Networking room
A dedicated room for founder and mentor sessions.
Support services
Help offered alongside funding and space.
Support here is people and access rather than equipment. Incubated startups can also claim cloud software credits through a Zoho partnership.
Business advisory
A panel of around fifteen named mentors across marketing and branding, finance, BFSI, pharmaceuticals, agri entrepreneurship, fisheries and animal husbandry, and go-to-market. Mentor meetings are arranged by writing to incubation@imi-k.edu.in.
IP & patents
The incubator points founders at L2Pro India, a free IP training platform built by Qualcomm, DPIIT and NLU Delhi, and has an IPR mentor from the Patent Information Centre of the West Bengal State Council of Science & Technology.
Legal & finance
Legal and compliance support is part of the Incubation programme.
Market access
Pilot connections and sales access in the Incubation programme; enterprise connects, B2B introductions and angel syndication in Acceleration.
Recognitions & empanelments
Official approvals this incubator holds.
MSME Innovative Scheme Host Institute
IMI Kolkata has been approved by the Ministry of MSME, Government of India, as a Host Institute for the Innovative Scheme, Incubation Component, with IKN Innovation Foundation acting as the business incubator.
How to apply to IKN Innovation Foundation, IMI Kolkata
Pick the rung, not the programme
NEEV's three programmes are a ladder, and they are separated by how far along you are, not by sector. Work out where you sit first:
- You have an idea and nothing built yet. Kick Start. Three months, no fee, no equity. This is also the route for students.
- You have a working product but no real traction. Incubation. Six to twelve months, and the incubator takes a small equity stake.
- You are making revenue and want to raise. Acceleration. Four to six months, and the fee is a share of equity charged only if you close a round.
Applying to the wrong rung is the most common way to get a slow answer. If you are genuinely between two, apply to the lower one and say in the form why you think you might be ready for the next.
How applications work
- Each of the three programmes has its own application form, all linked from the incubation page. There is also a general "get incubated" form on the Join Us page if you are not sure which fits.
- No intake dates or deadlines are published for any of the three. Treat them as rolling, and email incubation@imi-k.edu.in to ask where the next cohort stands before you wait.
- The MSME Innovative Scheme route is separate: that application goes through the ministry's own portal, with IKN acting as your host incubator. Mention it in your email if that is what you are after.
- Grameen Neev has its own site and its own application route. Do not apply to it through the NEEV forms.
What to settle before you sign
- Ask exactly what equity Incubation takes. The published brochure gives the figure two different ways in the same document. Get it in writing.
- Ask what the Acceleration success fee is triggered by. It is described as equity on a fund raise, so the definition of a qualifying round matters.
- Check the space against what you need. The published infrastructure is a co-working area, meeting rooms and a networking room. If you need a lab or a workshop, ask directly — the incubator's stated ambition to build labs is not a description of what is there today.
What the programmes seem to look for
Nothing is published about how applications are scored for the three NEEV programmes, so read the design instead:
- A problem worth validating, if you are at Kick Start. The whole three months is built around structured problem validation and founder coaching, so bring a problem and a hypothesis rather than a finished plan.
- Evidence the product works, if you are at Incubation. The programme is built for teams past a working product and turns on go-to-market, pilots and investor readiness.
- Revenue and a reason to raise now, if you are at Acceleration. The offer is enterprise introductions and angel syndication, which only pay off for a company with something to sell.
- A fit with the twelve sectors NEEV names. They run from AI and SaaS and deeptech through agritech, healthtech and climatetech. Say which one you are in.
For Grameen Neev the criteria are published: early to growth stage, ideally one to three years old, with a working product or early market validation, some revenue or a clear path to it, operating in rural or semi-urban India or serving underserved communities, and working on climate and green livelihoods, health and nutrition, or digital and financial inclusion. Women-led and women-focused enterprises are encouraged, and a share of every cohort is reserved for them. Selection there is a screen on innovation, impact potential, business viability and team strength, followed by a pitch to a jury.
About IKN Innovation Foundation, IMI Kolkata
IKN Innovation Foundation is the incubator attached to the International Management Institute (IMI) Kolkata, and it runs its work under the name NEEV Incubation Center. It is a Section 8 not-for-profit company, incorporated in West Bengal in 2023, and it sits on the IMI Kolkata campus at Judges Court Road in Alipore, Kolkata. IMI Kolkata is described on the incubator's own pages as being under the aegis of the RP Sanjiv Goenka Group.
NEEV describes itself as a funding readiness route for Eastern India. Its own framing is that founders in the region have historically lacked structured paths to capital, mentorship and market access, and that its job is to close that gap. Its stated mission is to incubate more than a thousand innovation-driven ventures by 2035, with a bias towards socially relevant problems and business models aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. That is a goal, not a record.
How the programmes work
There are three NEEV programmes, and they are meant to be read as a ladder rather than as alternatives. Kick Start runs three months and is for students and idea-stage founders. It is free and takes no equity at all, and it gives you structured problem-validation workshops, founder readiness coaching and an assessment, and a place in NEEV's peer group of founders. Incubation runs six to twelve months and is for startups that already have a working product. It adds go-to-market and sector-specific mentoring, investor readiness preparation, pilot connections and sales access, and legal and compliance support, along with access to the incubator's own space. NEEV takes a small equity stake for it; its brochure states that stake two different ways, so ask before you sign. Acceleration runs four to six months and is for startups already making revenue and preparing to raise. It gives enterprise connects and B2B introductions, access to an angel syndication network, and end-to-end fundraising support, and NEEV charges a success fee taken in equity only when you actually close a round.
Each programme has its own online application form, all three linked from the incubation page. There are no published intake dates for any of them, so treat them as rolling and write to the centre if you want to know where the next cohort stands.
Two more routes sit alongside the ladder. IMI Kolkata has been approved by the Ministry of MSME as a Host Institute for the Innovative Scheme, Incubation Component, with IKN Innovation Foundation acting as the Business Incubator. Under that scheme, selected startup ideas get incubation support for prototype development and shortlisted teams can receive grant support from the ministry. Applications for it go through the ministry's own portal rather than through NEEV. Separately, Grameen Neev is a sustainability accelerator that IKN runs jointly with the Grameen Foundation. It is cohort-based, aimed at social enterprises in rural and semi-urban India working on climate and green livelihoods, health and nutrition, or digital and financial inclusion, and it has its own site and application route. A fourth programme, Greenovation, is named on the incubation page as a joint programme with EarthOn Foundation, but nothing is published about who it is for or how to apply.
Who can apply
NEEV's own material says it backs founders across twelve sectors: AI and SaaS, deeptech, mobility and logistics, retail and supply chain, ecommerce and D2C, fintech for Bharat, edtech and skilltech, defence and space tech, ESG and sustainability, agritech and foodtech, healthtech and biotech, and climatetech and clean energy. The programmes are open to outside founders, not only to IMI Kolkata students and faculty: the incubatee list is mostly private limited companies from Kolkata and across West Bengal rather than campus teams. Students are explicitly named as the audience for Kick Start.
One distinction is worth knowing before you read the site. NEEV publishes two separate lists. The incubatees page names roughly forty companies it has taken in, from health and agri ventures to blockchain consulting and D2C brands. The student startups page is something else: it lists MBA class projects from the New Venture Development course, grouped by academic year. Those are coursework, not incubated companies.
Rural incubation
A distinct arm of the foundation works outside the startup ladder. With Sabuj Sangha, and funded as a CSR programme of L&T Finance, it supports women entrepreneurs in Murshidabad district of West Bengal, with a smaller set of women-led nano enterprises being helped to scale. IMI Kolkata has also entered a partnership with the West Bengal State Rural Livelihood Mission, under the state's Department of Panchayat and Rural Development, to run capacity building for business development service providers, community organisation representatives and grassroots enterprise mentors across thirteen One Stop Facilitation blocks in eight districts. Neither of these has an open application route for founders.
Facilities and support
The published infrastructure is modest and worth checking against your needs before you apply. The infrastructure page lists a co-working space, two meeting rooms and a networking room. The services page adds private offices, conference rooms, dedicated WiFi, a lounge, training rooms and board rooms. There are no labs or prototyping workshops listed; the incubator's mission statement mentions innovation labs and prototyping facilities as something it intends to provide, which is not the same as something it has.
Support is mostly people and access rather than equipment. Mentoring runs through a panel of around fifteen named mentors covering marketing and branding, finance and accounts, BFSI, IPR, pharmaceuticals, agri entrepreneurship, fisheries and animal husbandry, and go-to-market. Mentor meetings are arranged by email. Incubated startups can claim Zoho Wallet credits through a partnership with Zoho. The centre also points founders at L2Pro India, a free IP training platform built by Qualcomm, DPIIT and NLU Delhi, and sells a sixteen-day AICTE-evaluated entrepreneurship awareness course aimed at pre-incubation founders, students and faculty.
Who runs it
The Board of Governors is chaired by Dr. Sachin Modgil of IMI Kolkata and includes the institute's director, Prof. Mohua Banerjee, its dean for strategy, innovation and entrepreneurship, Prof. Tirthankar Nag, and two outside business members. Mr. Avijit Das is Chief Operating Officer for entrepreneurship and Member Secretary of the board, and Mr. Vivaswan Bhattacharya is Head of Incubation. An advisory council brings in outside names including the CEO of Samunnati, the CEO of Grameen Foundation for Social Impact, a co-founder of EarthOn Foundation and SwitchOn Foundation, a former additional secretary in the Ministry of Rural Development, and the director of banglanatak.com.
Where it is
The incubator is at 2/4C Judges Court Road, Alipore, Kolkata 700027. General enquiries, mentor bookings and programme questions all go to incubation@imi-k.edu.in. The site has no careers page. Its events page is mostly a record of campus guest lectures and student pitching sessions from 2023 and 2024 rather than open calls for outside founders.
