About Center for Inclusive Policy
The Center for Inclusive Policy (CIP) is a nonprofit in Washington, DC, registered in the United States as a 501(c)(3). It works on disability-inclusive policy and research, and its main offer to individuals is a 12-month online research and policy fellowship for emerging leaders with disabilities from the Global South.
What CIP offers
CIP offers two kinds of work. The first is the CIP Fellowship Program, which is for individuals. The second is training and advisory work for organisations. CIP says that through courses, workshops and online learning it makes technical knowledge more accessible and strengthens policy capacity across the disability sector.
The CIP Fellowship Program
The fellowship is a 12-month online research training. Selected fellows receive a monthly stipend, a budget for research costs, conferences or further training, a mentor to guide their research, and coverage of the reasonable accommodation costs they need to take part.
Applications are currently closed. CIP expects the next call to open in June 2027, so the fellowship is between calls for now.
CIP's website says fellows have come from Central Asia, South Asia, Africa, East Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. CIP's website and its programme document give different counts of fellows, so this page does not give a total.
Who can apply
The fellowship is for emerging leaders with disabilities from the Global South. Applicants need an undergraduate degree or relevant research and policy experience.
Scale and reach
CIP says it has worked in more than 40 countries. It contributed to the UN's 2024 Disability and Development Report, which finds persistent gaps against the Sustainable Development Goals for persons with disabilities.
CIP says it works on research and policy directly with organisations of persons with disabilities (OPDs), state governments, human rights organisations, universities and international organisations.
Its data work also cites India's assistive-device budget, part of which went unspent in 2021-22.
