Track record

What IKP Knowledge Park reports about its portfolio.

IKP reports 1,850+ companies and innovation projects, the largest figure of any incubator profiled here — but note the wording. That counts projects as well as companies, which is a looser definition than the startup counts reported elsewhere. It also cites operations across 9 countries, 5 incubators and 60 large and mid-size companies supported.

1,850Startups supportedStated as 1,850+ companies and innovation projects — a broader definition than incubated startups, and the largest claim of any incubator profiled here.

Genesis

Accelerator

Early-stage programme for deep-science ventures.

Biotechnology Ignition Grant (BIG)

Grant scheme

BIRAC's flagship early-stage biotech grant, which IKP is a partner for.

What you get, who can apply and how to apply

BIG terms are set centrally by BIRAC — up to Rs 50 lakh, grant-in-aid, 18 months to proof of concept — so they can be verified independently. a-IDEA is also a BIG partner, so this is a scheme with several routes in.

Challenge for agri-tech startups solving grassroots problems.

Official programme page

Prototyping, analytical services, and quality/regulatory compliance support.

What you get, who can apply and how to apply

IKP sells these as services. COMPASS in particular — quality and regulatory compliance — addresses the gate most medical device and biotech ventures hit late and expensively.

Official programme page

IP, commercialisation, regulatory and legal support.

Official programme page

IKP Global Regulatory Forum (IGRF)

Platform

Forum helping regulatory agencies understand emerging technology.

What you get, who can apply and how to apply

Unusual: most incubators help startups navigate regulators, whereas IGRF works on the regulators' understanding of new technology. That is an ecosystem-level activity, and a sign of how established IKP is.

Incubation tracks

The routes into IKP Knowledge Park, and what each one includes.

IKP runs two distinct sites for two distinct audiences: the life-science incubator on the 200-acre Genome Valley park near Hyderabad, and IKP EDEN, a maker space in Koramangala, Bengaluru. Which one you want depends on whether your work is wet-lab or hardware. Neither publishes fees, tenure or equity terms.

Labs & facilities

Equipment and space on campus.

Founded in 1999, IKP is the oldest incubator profiled here, and the facilities reflect that accumulation: analytical labs, a prototyping facility, growth labs and BIRAC-supported BioNest space, spread across a 200-acre science park plus a Karnataka common instrumentation facility.

SmartFab

Growth Labs

BioNest

BIRAC-supported bio-incubation space.

India's dedicated life-sciences cluster near Hyderabad.

K-Tech Innovation Hub (CIF)

Recognitions & empanelments

Official approvals this incubator holds.

Two, but both substantive. BIRAC named IKP its Best Biotech Incubator in 2021, and it runs a Karnataka state instrumentation facility as well as its Telangana operations — one of the few incubators here with a real presence in two states.

BIRAC BioNest bioincubator

Won BIRAC's Best Biotech Incubator award in 2021.

K-Tech Innovation Hub, Government of Karnataka

Runs a Karnataka common instrumentation facility alongside its Telangana operations.

The oldest incubator here, and it shows

IKP Knowledge Park was founded in 1999 — a decade before C-CAMP, fifteen years before a-IDEA — and is structurally different from most Indian incubators. It is not a university TBI or an Atal centre. It is an independent not-for-profit science park operating a 200-acre site in Genome Valley near Hyderabad, plus a maker space in Bengaluru, with activity across nine countries.

What that buys you. Depth of service rather than a funding ladder. A-LABS for analytical work, SmartFab for prototyping, Growth Labs and BIRAC-supported BioNest space, a Technology Transfer Office for IP and licensing, and COMPASS for quality and regulatory compliance. That last one is the underrated item: regulatory compliance is where medtech and biotech ventures typically stall, and few incubators offer it as a standing service.

A signal of standing. IKP runs the IKP Global Regulatory Forum, which helps regulatory agencies understand emerging technology. Most incubators help startups navigate regulators; working with the regulators themselves is an ecosystem-level role. BIRAC also named IKP its Best Biotech Incubator in 2021.

Two sites, two audiences. The Hyderabad life-science incubator suits wet-lab work; IKP EDEN in Koramangala, Bengaluru is the hardware-oriented maker space. Choose by what your product needs.

Best fit: biopharma, biotech, medical devices and agri-tech ventures needing sustained lab and regulatory support. Facility and incubation terms are quoted on enquiry — engage@ikpknowledgepark.com.
