The Centre of Excellence for Efficiency Augmentation is a start-up support centre in Jayanagar, Bengaluru. It is set up by Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) in collaboration with the Government of Karnataka. Only Indian start-ups working on industry 4.0 technologies such as AI, ML, Big Data and IoT can apply.

How the centre works

The centre supports early-stage start-ups that build products and solutions to raise the efficiency of industrial production, operations, service businesses and government projects. Its stated aim is to turn business ideas into working technology, and to test and adapt technology so it addresses real industry problems.

Support covers technical help, mentoring, seed funding and market assistance. Mentoring is free for start-ups. Seed funding is decided by an investment committee after due diligence at an early stage of product development. The pages do not say whether seed funding takes equity.

Who can apply

The start-up must be incorporated as a Private Limited Company, a Registered Partnership Firm or a Limited Liability Partnership. The centre works with start-ups in industry 4.0 technologies. Its pages do not mention a fee or a sector beyond efficiency augmentation.

Facilities

The centre plans an innovation and development lab with network, compute and storage equipment and development tools. To begin with, it expects to have tools for smart manufacturing, smart energy, smart water and home and office automation. It also plans well-furnished, air-conditioned incubation rooms for more than 100 workstations, with board and training rooms.

Training and skilling

The centre also plans training and capacity-building courses in IoT, cloud, AI, ML and big data. The target groups are engineering graduates, working professionals, students and Karnataka government staff. The courses are described as planned, and the pages do not give a schedule.

Scale

The centre's stated plan is to support 100 start-ups over five years, 90 in person and 10 remotely. This is a plan, not a record of results. No completed batch or alumni count is published on the pages read.

Who runs it

STPI is an autonomous society set up by the Government of India under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Its website lists Hewlett Packard Enterprise India as a supporter. The Karnataka Department of Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science and Technology lists the centre on its own site as one of its Centres of Excellence, with the Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society as a partner.
