About Incubation at IIT Delhi (TBIU)
FITT started IIT Delhi's incubation programme in 1999-2000 and runs it through the Technology Business Incubation Unit. It takes applications on a rolling basis, subject to space being free, and it is the door most founders come through before any of FITT's funding schemes are open to them.
What you get
- Subsidised working space on campus, with the scale-up space at the Research and Innovation Park
- An IIT Delhi faculty member as technical mentor, plus an industry mentor matched by domain
- Access to prototyping facilities and campus R&D facilities
- Access to FITT's networks of tech companies and deep-tech investors, and to its funding programmes, which are competitive
- Business support including IP management and legal and financial guidance
- Training, workshops, networking events and showcase platforms
Who can apply
- Technology-driven startups working on an innovative product or process
- Registered in India as a private limited company under the Companies Act 2013 — you can apply before incorporating, but joining depends on the company being formed
- Resident Indian citizens holding more than half the shares
- At least one promoter working full-time on the startup
- Individuals and LLPs only if they already hold an innovation grant from a government programme
- FITT's pages differ on age: the incubation page says preferably within five years of inception, its applicant guide says preferably under three years
How selection works: You send a short note about your idea, then create a profile and upload a presentation. The team holds a first discussion with you, and promising applicants present to the selection committee. Reviewers look for an innovative technology-based idea with commercial potential and a clear market read, potential to generate IP or IP already filed, a team with the skills and commitment to build it, evidence you can execute, and a specific reason you need to be at IIT Delhi. If you are turned down you may apply again with a clearly improved product or plan.
How to apply: Apply online through FITT's incubation application, with the form endorsed by your IIT Delhi faculty mentor. Admission is rolling and depends on space.
