About GREAT — Grant for Research and Entrepreneurship across Aspiring Innovators in Technical Textiles
GREAT is the part of the National Technical Textiles Mission that individual founders and startups can apply to directly. It gives grant-in-aid from the Ministry of Textiles to turn a technical-textiles idea into a functional prototype or a commercial product. It was launched in August 2023, and applications are invited through the mission's GREAT portal.
What you get
- Grant-in-aid from the Ministry of Textiles, normally with a ceiling per project set in the guideline.
- Funding for up to 18 months, tied to at least two milestones.
- Three instalments: after approval and signing of the legal agreement with your incubator, on the first milestone, and on the second milestone with the project completion report. The last is paid on a reimbursement basis.
- Coverage of all 12 segments of technical textiles.
- You put in a minimum share of your own money, and the associated incubator receives an administrative share of the grant.
Who can apply
- Individual entrepreneurs and startups.
- Startups registered as a private limited company, partnership firm or LLP, under the turnover ceiling in the guideline.
- Applicants who work through an associated incubator and sign a legal agreement with it.
- The guideline sets further conditions on who may apply, so read it before you start.
How selection works: Proposals are presented before an Empowered Programme Committee. Funding starts after NTTM approves the proposal and the startup signs the legal agreement with its associated incubator.
How to apply: Register as a startup on the NTTM GREAT portal and submit your proposal. The site states no fixed batch or deadline. A July 2026 office memorandum extends the application window to 31 December 2027, while earlier guidance named a December 2025 cut-off, so confirm on the portal that applications are open.
