National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM)

The National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM) was launched in 2020 by the Ministry of Textiles with an outlay of INR 1,480 crore for the period 2020-21 to 2025-26. The mission aims to position India as a global leader in technical textiles through four key components: Research, Innovation and Development; Promotion and Market Development; Export Promotion; and Education, Training, Skill Development.

Under NTTM, the GREAT (Grant for Research and Entrepreneurship across Aspiring Innovators in Technical Textiles) scheme provides grants of up to INR 50 lakh per startup for commercialising innovations in medical, industrial, and protective textiles. To date, 24 startups have been approved under GREAT. GIST 2.0 bridges the gap between industry and academia through hands-on learning opportunities, supporting the Make in India initiative. The mission also targets training 50,000 individuals including undergraduate students, unskilled workers, and professionals to meet the growing demand in the technical textiles sector.
