FTBI-TEXMiN Mining CPS Centre of Excellence grants

FTBI runs a Mining Cyber-Physical Systems Centre of Excellence with the TEXMiN Foundation, and puts out three grant lines under it. All three are restricted to NIT Rourkela — this is not a route in from outside. Only the student fellowship is currently taking applications; the technology development grant and the pre-incubation grant are both marked closed.

What you get

• Fellowship: a monthly stipend for up to 10 months, for one of ten places
• Technology development grant: project funding for up to 24 months, two projects a year
• Pre-incubation grant: funding for up to 12 months for product development, prototype refinement and market validation, five a year

Who can apply

• Fellowship: UG and PG students of NIT Rourkela, working under a mentor on a mining project aligned to cyber-physical systems, individually
• Technology development grant: NIT Rourkela faculty, with a commercialisation vision
• Pre-incubation grant: NIT Rourkela students, alumni or affiliated innovators, with a mining idea at proof-of-concept or lab stage, alone or in a team

Work areas run across safe, smart, sustainable and social mining, mine safety using AI and cyber-physical systems, critical and rare-earth mineral exploration, green mining, the circular economy in mining, and exploration-to-beneficiation technology.

How selection works: FTBI says its award decision is final. Any IP you generate has to follow the FTBI-TEXMiN IP policy.

How to apply: download the right proposal form, fill it in and get it signed, deliver the hard copy to the FTBI office at NIT Rourkela, and email a scanned copy to ftbi@nitrkl.ac.in. Unsigned or incomplete applications are not considered. The fellowship closes on 30 September 2026.
