What is FSSAI License & Registration?

Obtain FSSAI Basic Registration, State Licence, or Central Licence under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006. Mandatory for all food businesses — restaurants, packaged food brands, cloud kitchens, home bakers, and online food sellers.

FSSAI has three tiers: Basic Registration (annual turnover up to ₹12 lakh — use Form A), State Licence (turnover ₹12 lakh to ₹20 crore — use Form B), and Central Licence (turnover above ₹20 crore, or for importers, e-commerce food aggregators, and multi-state operators).

Who Needs FSSAI License & Registration?

Any entity involved in food manufacturing, processing, packaging, storage, distribution, transportation, or retail — including restaurants, cloud kitchens, home bakers, food delivery aggregators, packaged food brands, import-export firms, hotels, and canteens — must be registered or licensed under FSSAI before starting operations.

⚠️ Penalty for Non-Compliance

Operating a food business without FSSAI registration or licence attracts a fine of up to ₹5 lakh and/or imprisonment under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006. E-commerce platforms (Amazon, Flipkart) suspend food seller accounts without a valid FSSAI number.
