Selection Process
Solutions are evaluated qualitatively across multiple dimensions by a selection committee. Key evaluation criteria include the success of the test case demonstration, the clarity and completeness of the PPT/PDF presentation, the robustness of the solution architecture, the functionality of the working demonstration, the quality of AI analytics, and the scalability and Proof-of-Concept (PoC) readiness. Innovative solutions that demonstrate exceptional merit may earn special recognition. The top 6 teams from the initial evaluation rounds are then invited to demonstrate their solutions live at the Grand Finale for final assessment.

It is India's largest hackathon on CCTV integration and AI video analytics, an initiative by Gujarat Police aimed at unifying 80,000+ CCTV cameras across Gujarat into a smart surveillance network and building AI solutions for real-time detection and tracking for public safety.
The challenge is open to a wide range of participants from across India, including undergraduate and postgraduate student teams, academic faculty, PhD scholars, independent R&D research groups, DPIIT-registered early-stage technology startups, working professionals and engineers in AI/Computer Vision/Security, established technology enterprises, and system integrators.
The program offers a substantial total prize pool of ₹51 lakh for the top solutions. This funding is awarded as non-repayable cash to the winning teams.
Quick Answer
India's largest hackathon on CCTV integration and AI video analytics by Gujarat Police, offering a ₹51 lakh prize pool to build real-world public safety solutions.
The Gujarat Police Innovation Challenge 2026, also known as the Gujarat CCTV Hackathon 2026, stands as India's largest hackathon focused on CCTV integration and AI video analytics. This significant initiative, spearheaded by Gujarat Police (Government of Gujarat), is designed for India's innovators and builders to create solutions that protect what matters. Unlike simulations or proof-of-concept exercises, this challenge demands solutions built for real-world deployment.
The core challenge is to unify over 80,000 CCTV cameras across Gujarat into a single, intelligent surveillance network. Participants are tasked with developing advanced AI solutions for real-time suspicious activity detection, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), vehicle tracking, watchlist matching, and cross-camera search, all operating on live CCTV feeds—a pioneering effort in India.
Participants will collaborate directly with Gujarat Police to engineer intelligent CCTV solutions for the future of policing. This involves integrating diverse CCTV systems into a unified platform, cross-referencing live video feeds with Government databases, leveraging AI to identify persons, vehicles, and events of interest, and generating real-time alerts to support faster and smarter law enforcement operations. The technology stack spans feed integration, AI analytics, video intelligence, object and face detection, cybersecurity, and scalable architecture for live monitoring. Participants will work with genuine CCTV footage from active Government infrastructure across departments like Health, Police, GSRTC, Panchayat, and Municipal, within a proving ground of 30+ cameras and a live simulation environment to test production-readiness.
What You Get
The Gujarat Police Innovation Challenge 2026 offers a total prize pool of ₹51 lakh for winning solutions, recognizing cutting-edge innovations in public safety. Participants also gain unparalleled access to real-world government CCTV datasets and live simulation environments, providing a unique opportunity to build and test solutions with genuine infrastructure. Direct collaboration with Gujarat Police provides invaluable mentorship and insights into real-world policing challenges. Furthermore, top solutions will receive national recognition and a potential opportunity for real-world deployment across Gujarat's public safety infrastructure, offering significant market access and impact.
No, DPIIT recognition is explicitly stated as one eligible category among several, but it is not a mandatory requirement for all participants to enter the challenge.
Participants will gain access to genuine, non-synthetic CCTV footage from active Government infrastructure. This includes live and archived Government CCTV feeds from key departments like Health, Police, GSRTC, Panchayat, and Municipal, within a dedicated proving ground and live simulation environment.
Participants have the unique opportunity to solve a real, impactful government problem, work with authentic CCTV datasets, gain national recognition, and potentially see their innovative solutions deployed in real-world public safety operations across Gujarat. It also offers a chance to build scalable AI architectures with significant public safety impact.
