Unbound '26 is the flagship national-level online hackathon organized by FOSS CLUB PU, Pondicherry University. This 14-day event challenges student developers, designers, and innovators from across
India to collaborate and build impactful, production-ready software completely from scratch, rooted in the philosophy of Free and Open-Source Software (FOSS). It is designed as a deep dive into Open Innovation, providing participants with the time and freedom to architect, build, and refine their prototypes. Who Should Apply Open to student developers, designers, and innovators from universities and colleges across India. Teams of 1 to 4 members are encouraged, and cross-college teams are highly welcome. Participants should be passionate about open-source development and eager to contribute to the FOSS ecosystem. Tracks / Themes The central theme for Unbound '26 is Open Innovation. Participants have the freedom to develop any solution that addresses a real-world problem, provided that the entire project is open-source. This encourages creative problem-solving within the FOSS framework. Format & Timeline Unbound '26 is a 14-day online hackathon with the following key dates: Registrations Close: June 12, 2026 Hackathon Kickoff: June 12, 2026 Mid-Way Technical Checkpoint: June 19, 2026 Final Repository Submission & Code Freeze: June 26, 2026 (11:59 PM IST) Results & Winners Announcement: Early July 2026 The event emphasizes authentic development, with Git commit history reviewed to ensure continuous activity. All core logic must be developed during the hackathon period, and projects must rely on open ecosystem alternatives or open APIs. Prizes All teams that make a valid and verified submission will receive digital certificates. The hackathon offers a unique opportunity to add a production-ready open-source project to your portfolio and resume, gain hands-on experience in collaborative software development, and contribute meaningfully to the open-source community. Eligibility Open to students across India. Teams must consist of 1 to 4 members. A crucial rule is that every project repository must include a valid OSI-approved open-source license file (e.g., MIT, Apache 2.0, GNU GPL v3) in its root directory; submissions without a valid FOSS license will be disqualified.
