Track record

What Next Bharat Ventures IFSC Private Limited reports about its portfolio.

The firm publishes no portfolio size, no investment count and no capital figure. The companies listed here are the ones it names itself on its portfolio page; several were founded years before the firm existed, so they are portfolio companies rather than programme graduates.

29Entrepreneurs supportedMembers of the WHY Club, the firm's peer circle of impact entrepreneurs. This is a community membership count, not a count of companies invested in, and it is undated on the page.

All figures self-reported — nextbharat.ventures, as of Sept 2026.

Programmes they run

Standing programmes at Next Bharat Ventures IFSC Private Limited, separate from the funding calls above.

Six programmes are listed on the site, but only the Next Bharat Residency is open to Indian founders. The next start date is given four different ways across four pages, and the duration four different ways too, so confirm the current intake before planning around it.

A three-month hybrid residency for revenue-generating rural and informal-economy ventures, ending in an equity investment decision.

Best for: Impact entrepreneurs working to raise incomes in India's informal urban and rural economies

  • Early revenue – Growth
  • 3 months hybrid, including 3 weeks in person
  • Hybrid
  • Free, takes equity

With Suzuki group

What you get, who can apply and how to apply

The firm's one programme for founders. It runs over three months in hybrid mode, with three weeks spent in person in Bangalore and the rest online, and Cohort 4 is flagged as next up. Selected ventures receive equity investment; the firm's pages give different next start dates, so check the current intake before you plan around it.

What you get

  • Equity investment in selected ventures
  • Three weeks of immersive workshops in Bangalore
  • Mentoring from people who work in rural and informal markets
  • A place in a pan-India network of impact entrepreneurs, and in the firm's WHY Club peer circle
  • Market-access introductions through its Suzuki group and other India and Japan networks
  • A stipend towards living costs during the Bangalore weeks; accommodation is not arranged

Who can apply

  • For-profit entities aiming at both financial return and measurable impact
  • Ventures directly serving India 2 and India 3, the informal urban and rural economies
  • Companies already generating revenue, with early traction and room to scale
  • Founders looking to raise equity in the next three to six months
  • The largest shareholder must personally attend every session; co-founders may attend but cannot substitute
  • Attending the whole programme is a condition of being eligible for investment, and completing it is not a promise of investment

How selection works: applications are reviewed and shortlisted, shortlisted founders go through two to three rounds of interviews, investment representatives then make an on-site visit to the business, and successful applicants are notified and onboarded.

How to apply: through the online application form linked from the residency page on the firm's site. General questions go to info@nextbharat.ventures.

A research fellowship for faculty at Indian academic institutions, not for founders, with the next round not yet dated.

Best for: Faculty at Indian academic institutions

  • 1 to 3 years
  • Hybrid
  • Free, no equity
  • Grant support for selected startups
What you get, who can apply and how to apply

A one-to-three-year research fellowship for faculty members at Indian academic institutions, supporting translational research that turns emerging technologies into practical solutions for rural and informal sectors. The next round has not been announced. Fellows receive an annual research grant and are expected to mentor entrepreneurs in the firm's portfolio in return.

Who can apply

  • Faculty members at Indian academic institutions
  • Researchers working on applications of emerging technologies with social impact in rural and informal sectors

How selection works: applications are reviewed, a panel of experts shortlists the strongest proposals, shortlisted candidates present and discuss their work online in front of experts and representatives of the innovation centre, and a selection panel names the final fellows.

How to apply: email Programs@nextbharat.ventures with your name, contact details and a short introduction.

How to apply to Next Bharat Ventures IFSC Private Limited

Choosing the right programme

Only one of the six programmes here is a route in for an Indian founder: the Next Bharat Residency. The Suzuki Next Bharat Fellowship is for academic faculty. Learn in Bharat, Next Bharat Thinking and the Agile Program are built for Japanese organisations coming into India. Learn in Nippon is for Indian students and for founders already in the Next Bharat network. Writing to the programmes inbox about the wrong one costs you weeks.

Before you apply

  • Check you pass all three tests, not two. For-profit, directly serving the rural or informal economy, and already generating revenue. Pre-revenue applications do not fit the stated criteria.
  • Be honest about your raise timing. They ask for companies looking to raise equity in the next three to six months, so an application makes most sense when you are genuinely close to a round.
  • Work out who your largest shareholder is before you start. That person must personally attend every session across three months, including three weeks in Bangalore. If they cannot, the application is not viable — a co-founder is not allowed to substitute.
  • Plan for the Bangalore weeks. Accommodation is not provided; a stipend towards living costs is.

How applications work

The residency takes applications through an online form linked from its programme page. The other programmes are handled by email to the programmes inbox — send your name, contact details and a short introduction. There is no published deadline, and the site's own pages disagree about when the next cohort starts, so ask before you assume an intake is open.

How selection works

Application review, then two to three rounds of interviews, then an on-site field visit by investment representatives, then the final decision. The field visit is the distinctive step. Investors will come to where you actually operate — the farm, the cluster, the processing unit, the collection centre — so have your ground operations, your producer or artisan relationships and your unit economics ready to be walked through in person, not just described.

What reviewers look for

The firm frames its thesis around raising incomes in the informal urban and rural economies, and it asks for both financial return and measurable impact. So be concrete about who earns more because of you, by how much, and how that scales as revenue grows. Its existing portfolio is heavily weighted towards producer-facing businesses in farming, food processing, dairy, crafts and waste — if you sit in one of those, show what you know about the supply side that a generalist investor would not.

One expectation to set for yourself: completing the residency makes you eligible for investment, it does not entitle you to it. Treat the three months as a long diligence process with real teaching attached, not as a formality before a cheque.

About Next Bharat Ventures IFSC Private Limited
