Programmes they run

Standing programmes at INDO GERMAN TOOL ROOM INDORE, separate from the funding calls above.

The centre runs one route a founder can apply to, and it is applied for on the Ministry of MSME's portal rather than here. Its other schemes — ESDP, ESDP-ATI, MAPCET, SC-ST Hub, NSFDC and NBCFDC — are sponsored vocational training for individuals, with age, qualification and category conditions, not support for a company.

IGTR Indore is a recognised host institute under the Ministry of MSME's incubation scheme, so an innovator can name it as the place where their idea gets built into a proof of concept or prototype.

Best for: Indian innovators — students, MSMEs or individuals — with an idea that needs building into a prototype, especially anything involving tooling, machining or a physical product.

What you get, who can apply and how to apply

This is the one route at IGTR Indore that a founder applies to. The centre is listed as a host institute on the Ministry of MSME's own register of institutions that act as business incubators under its incubation scheme, and ideas reach it through the national MSME Idea Hackathon, which runs in numbered editions. The most recent edition's submission window has closed and the ideas received are being evaluated, so the next step for a new applicant is to watch the Ministry's portal for the following edition. Note that IGTR's own website carries nothing about this apart from a Ministry campaign banner — everything happens on the portal.

What you get

  • The centre's engineers, workshop and machines put behind turning your idea into a proof of concept or a working prototype.
  • Ministry support for that development work, paid to the host institute rather than to you.
  • Access to a tool room that can actually make precision parts — CNC machining, moulds and dies, heat treatment, welding and a coordinate measuring machine for checking what comes out.

Who can apply

  • Any innovator of Indian origin with an email address and a mobile number.
  • Under the MSME category, using a Udyam registration number.
  • Under the student category, with a student identity card valid for the current financial year.
  • Under the others category, if neither of the above fits.
  • No incorporated company is required, and there is no state restriction.

How selection works: ideas are submitted through a host institute during an open hackathon edition and are then evaluated and approved by the Ministry. Results are published on the Ministry's portal.

How to apply: register on the Ministry of MSME's incubation portal during an open MSME Idea Hackathon edition and select Indo German Tool Room Indore as your host institute. Before you do, it is worth writing to the training department at trg@igtr-indore.com to check capacity and fit, since the centre publishes no guidance of its own.

CNC milling, lathe, EDM and wire-cut machines, jig boring, precision surface and cylindrical grinding, a heat treatment shop and TIG, MIG and spot welding.

Metrology and materials testing lab

Carl Zeiss coordinate measuring machine, profile projector, electronic height master, hardness and micro-hardness testers, carbon-sulphur analyzer and gauge calibration.

CAD/CAM/CAE software labs

Unigraphics, Pro-E, MasterCAM, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, Mouldflow and Hyperform, in equipped computer labs on a campus of about 24 acres.

Support services

Help offered alongside funding and space.

Business advisory

Technical advisory and consultancy for existing and planned MSMEs on tools, dies, moulds, gauges, metal casting, production planning and maintenance.

Design services

Design and manufacture of press tools, moulds, die-casting dies, jigs, fixtures and gauges, plus reverse engineering, 3D measurement and product drawing development.

Market access

An Export-Import Promotion Cell runs training in import-export management and documentation and offers guidance for export promotion.

Recognitions & empanelments

Official approvals this incubator holds.

We record only what a public register or the centre's own pages support. Being a body of the Ministry of MSME is not itself a scheme recognition — that is recorded as its parent organisation.

Host institute under the Ministry of MSME's incubation scheme

Confirmed against the Ministry's own live host-institute list, where the centre appears with this address and its training department as contact. The list does not publish when a host institute was recognised or for how long, so the period cannot be told.

How to apply to INDO GERMAN TOOL ROOM INDORE

Is this the right place for you

IGTR Indore is a tool room first. Come here if your product is a physical one and you need tooling, precision machining, metrology or a prototype made properly — or if you want the Ministry of MSME to fund the development of your idea at a recognised host institute. If you are looking for seed money into your company, a cohort programme, office space or investor introductions, this is not that kind of centre.

How the incubation application works

The application does not happen on IGTR's own website. It happens on the Ministry of MSME's incubation portal, during an open edition of the MSME Idea Hackathon. You register there, submit your idea, and choose your Host Institute — choose Indo German Tool Room Indore if you want the work done here.

Three things are worth getting right before you start. Decide which category you are applying under: MSME if you have a Udyam registration, Student if you have a valid current student card, or Others. Read the Ministry's participation instructions on the portal, because the edition's themes change and an idea outside them is wasted effort — edition 6.0 was themed around frontier technology in MSMEs, covering renewable energy, robotics and automation, Industry 4.0 and 5.0, automotive technology and energy efficiency. And check the window: editions open and close, and at the time of writing the latest one had closed with ideas under evaluation.

What the support actually is

The scheme's assistance is paid to the host institute to develop and nurture your idea, not handed to you as a cheque. In practice that means the institute's engineers, machines and time are put behind taking your idea to a proof of concept or a prototype. Plan your application around what you need built, and be specific about it.

Talk to them first

Because the centre publishes nothing about incubation itself, it is worth contacting the training department before you name IGTR Indore on a portal form — ask whether they have capacity, who would supervise the work, and whether your idea fits what the workshop can actually make. The Ministry lists the training department as the contact for this centre.

If you just need the workshop

You do not have to go through a scheme to use IGTR. It sells design, tooling, precision machining, pilot production, reverse engineering and 3D measurement as services to any MSME, and runs short courses of about 96 hours in CAD, CAM, CNC programming and PLC that a small hardware team can put an engineer through. Contact the design and marketing desk for job work and the training department for courses.

About INDO GERMAN TOOL ROOM INDORE

Indo German Tool Room (IGTR) Indore, now formally called MSME Technology Centre, Indore, is a government tool room and technical training centre on Sanwer Road in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. It runs under the Office of the Development Commissioner (MSME), Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, and was set up under a bilateral agreement between the Government of India and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, with land, building and infrastructure provided by the Government of Madhya Pradesh. Its own pages say it has been running since 1995.

It is important to be clear about what this centre is. Day to day it designs and makes press tools, moulds, die-casting dies, jigs, fixtures and gauges, does precision CNC job work and pilot production, and trains thousands of students and working technicians a year. It is not a startup incubator in the usual sense, and its website has no incubation page, no intake calendar and no list of companies it has incubated. What it does have is a formal role in one national scheme, described below, and a large workshop that a hardware founder can buy time on.

The incubation route

IGTR Indore is listed as a Host Institute under the Ministry of MSME's MSME Innovative (Incubation) scheme. We checked this against the Ministry's own live Host Institute list rather than taking the centre's word for it: IGTR Indore appears there at entry 230, with the Sanwer Road address and the training department as the contact. Two sibling tool rooms, at Ahmedabad and Aurangabad, are on the same list.

Being a Host Institute means the centre can take an innovator's idea through to a proof of concept or a working prototype, with the Ministry funding that work at the institute. Ideas reach it through the national MSME Idea Hackathon, which runs as numbered editions and is applied for on the Ministry's portal, not on IGTR's site. The applicant picks a Host Institute during that application. At the time we checked, the window for edition 6.0 had closed and submitted ideas were being evaluated, so the practical answer today is to watch the portal for the next edition.

The centre itself publishes nothing about this beyond a Ministry campaign banner on its homepage that links to the portal, and one line in its vision text about hand-holding support for start-up innovation. If you want a conversation before applying, the training department is the contact the Ministry lists against IGTR Indore.

Who can apply

For the incubation route, the scheme's own rules apply rather than any rule of IGTR's: any innovator of Indian origin with an email address and a mobile number, applying under one of three categories — MSME, using a Udyam registration number; Student, with a current student identity card; or Others. There is no stated requirement to have an incorporated company, and no requirement to be from Madhya Pradesh.

The centre also runs several government skill schemes, and it is worth knowing these are vocational training for individuals, not funding for businesses. ESDP and ESDP-ATI take candidates of any caste aged 18 and over who have passed class 10, and cover subjects from digital marketing, import-export and accounting through to AutoCAD, SolidWorks and PLC programming. MAPCET takes SC/ST candidates aged 18 to 35 who hold a BPL card, for residential certificate courses in CNC turning and milling. The SC-ST Hub programme adds solar installation, animation and welding. The site says all training programmes are free for SC and ST candidates.

Facilities and services

The workshop is the reason a product founder would come here. It holds CNC milling, lathe, EDM and wire-cut machines, jig boring, precision surface and cylindrical grinding, a heat treatment shop, a welding lab and a materials testing lab. Quality work is backed by a metrology room with a Carl Zeiss coordinate measuring machine, a profile projector and calibration of gauges and instruments. Design runs on Unigraphics, Pro-E, MasterCAM, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA and Mouldflow. The campus is around 24 acres and includes computer labs, an information centre, and hostel and guest house rooms for men and women.

Alongside tooling and job work, the centre offers technical advisory and consultancy to existing and planned MSMEs on tools, dies, moulds, gauges, metal casting, production planning and maintenance, plus reverse engineering, 3D measurement and product drawing development. An Export-Import Promotion Cell runs training in import-export management and documentation. The centre also acts as nodal agency for traditional-industry clusters under the SFURTI scheme, with clusters listed across Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Maharashtra.

Scale

The figures below are the centre's own and are undated, and its pages do not agree with each other on all of them. It says it has served more than 5,000 MSMEs and large industrial units, designed and developed 129 import-substitute toolings, trained 70,000 candidates in total and close to 10,000 a year across AICTE, NCVT and NSQF-aligned courses, and serves more than 500 industries a year. Its about page claims a team of 200 engineers and technicians while its vision page says 160, and it describes both three and four extension centres in different places. No incubatee or startup count is published anywhere.

Who runs it and where

The centre is headed by a General Manager, Shri D. V. Rautela, with separate heads for training, design and marketing, production, administration and personnel. Besides the main Sanwer Road campus, it runs extension centres at Kota in Rajasthan, at Polo Ground in Indore as an MSME-DI CAD/CAM training centre, at Jabalpur with an ITI, and at Khandwa with DAVV. Vacancies and walk-in interviews are posted as notices on the homepage; there is no separate careers page.
