Choosing the right programme

• LowCarbon.Earth Accelerator: for early-stage climate-tech startups from India and Asia-Pacific. It is virtual, runs for 12 weeks and takes no equity.
• SAFFAL: for climate businesses with some commercial traction, with a strong focus on women-led ventures. Check both the Foundation's page and the SAFFAL page for who is eligible, as they differ.
• GoMassive Climate Accelerator and MILES Challenge: both are closed. Do not wait on them.

How applications work

• Both programmes take applications through an online form, directly from founders. No introduction is needed.
• No closing date is published for either. LowCarbon.Earth says late submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis with no promised response time.
• SAFFAL's application takes about 45 minutes and covers team, traction, impact and capital needs. It has no application fee.
• Neither site shows live dates today, so check the apply page before you plan around a cycle.

How selection works

• SAFFAL shortlists teams for conversations with the SAFFAL team and a practitioner from the capital side. It weighs business fundamentals and readiness to raise together.
• LowCarbon.Earth does not publish its selection steps.

What reviewers look for

• For SAFFAL: evidence that the business works in the market. You do not need to be profitable.
• Have your team, traction, climate impact and what you need from investors ready before you start the SAFFAL form.
• For LowCarbon.Earth: a climate-tech business in one of its named sectors, such as clean energy and storage, water security, sustainable agriculture or plastic recycling.

Massive Earth Foundation is a Section 8 non-profit based in Gurgaon, Haryana. It runs climate programmes for startups, cities and communities, and describes itself as registered in India with 12A, 80G and FCRA certifications. Its two current startup programmes are the LowCarbon.Earth Accelerator, run with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and SAFFAL, a gender-lens climate accelerator for women-led climate businesses in South Asia. It is a non-profit, not a venture fund.

How its programmes work

The LowCarbon.Earth Accelerator is a 12-week, equity-free virtual programme for early-stage climate-tech startups from India and the wider Asia-Pacific region. It was launched in 2021 and is co-hosted with UNEP. Participants get expert-led mentorship, bootcamp sessions and access to investors and corporates. The Foundation's programme page describes it as its flagship accelerator and lists it as active. The accelerator's own site shows a 2025 intake with an Apply Now button and an online form, but no dates and no 2026 cohort.

SAFFAL stands for South Asia Finance Facility for Acceleration and Leverage. It is delivered under EmPower with UNEP and UN Women. A 12-week online bootcamp is paired with a blended-finance facility described as a mix of grant, debt, equity and catalytic capital. The site does not say whether a given business receives any of that capital, so treat the bootcamp, technical assistance and investor introductions as the part you can count on. The first cycle opened for applications in August 2025, ran an online bootcamp from December 2025, and closed with a demo day and a capital close in early 2026. The SAFFAL site now invites applications to the next cohort but gives no dates.

Selected SAFFAL businesses also get hands-on technical help with financial modelling, valuation and go-to-market, plus complimentary platform credits from Google Cloud, Microsoft and HubSpot. SAFFAL says it is free to apply and free to join, with no application fee and no programme fee.

An earlier programme, the GoMassive Climate Accelerator, ran in 2023 with AWS India and Climate Angels. It was a four-week hybrid accelerator for early-stage Indian startups using cloud, data and digital technology for climate outcomes, with six verticals: low-carbon transport, sustainable agriculture, digital solutions for sustainability, sustainable cities, industrial decarbonisation and clean energy. It closed on 22 December 2023. The Foundation also lists a completed clean-energy challenge, the MILES Challenge, run with Amplus Solar, part of the PETRONAS Group. Neither is open now.

Who can apply

The LowCarbon.Earth Accelerator is for early-stage climate-tech startups from India and the Asia-Pacific region. The sectors named are circular economy and waste-to-energy, climate data and digital, sustainable agriculture, clean energy and storage, water security, plastic recycling and alternative materials. Its startups page lists a company-size criterion but does not state a rule, so ask before assuming a size limit.

For SAFFAL, the Foundation's programme page and the SAFFAL site do not say the same thing. The Foundation's page says it backs registered, women-led ventures in India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, working in carbon removal, renewable energy and efficiency, fuel switching, waste management and agri-tech. The SAFFAL startups page is broader. It asks for climate businesses based in or mainly operating across South Asia, including Pakistan and the Maldives, that are past the pilot stage with some commercial traction. It says profitability is not needed, but evidence that the business works in the market is. It lists women-led businesses under what it especially wants to see rather than as a strict requirement. If you are not women-led, read the SAFFAL page closely and ask before applying.

LowCarbon.Earth Accelerator applicants fill in an online form. The form says late submissions may be considered but are reviewed on a rolling basis, with no promised response time. No introduction is needed.

SAFFAL applicants complete a short online application covering team, traction, impact and capital needs. It takes about 45 minutes. Shortlisted teams then speak with the SAFFAL team and a practitioner from the capital side, so that selection reflects both business fundamentals and readiness to raise. The stages that follow are the bootcamp, a demo day and introductions, then deal structuring and close.

Scale

The figures on the Foundation's sites are its own claims and they do not all agree. The Foundation's programme page and the accelerator's home page say LowCarbon.Earth has evaluated over 3,000 startups and supported more than 180 companies. The accelerator's startups page gives different counts, including 100+ startups and 2,500+ applications, and the home page also says it evaluates over 500 startups every year. Because the pages differ, we do not publish a single total for the accelerator. For SAFFAL, the Foundation says its first cohort drew 364 applications from across five South Asian markets. Its donate page says it has run 13 programmes since 2018 and published 8 research reports. Its partners page lists 15 institutional partners, with UNEP named as its main multilateral partner.

Other work and events

Beyond startup intakes, the Foundation's programmes page also lists community and city projects, including an EV rickshaw transition, a forest project called Smriti Van and a net-zero neighbourhood project in Sarojini Nagar. These are not startup programmes. Its website also lists events such as ClimateNXT 2025 and carries terms for a Massive Earth Summit, Asia-Pacific edition.
