Techno International New Town

Choosing the right route

• Faculty, staff, current students and alumni who left within the last two years, with a venture idea, should look at the Business Incubation Cell.
• Idea-stage founders, including students and working professionals with startup aspirations, should look at the Pre-Incubation Centre.

How applications work

• The incubation page invites applications with innovative ideas. It asks for the applicant's details, the educational background and experience of all promoters, a brief on the technology and business, the research or development help needed, and the availability of start-up capital.
• The incubation application form is linked from the college's Innovation pages. The form page itself showed no readable fields when checked, so confirm it opens before relying on it.

How selection works

• A panel of experienced professionals and academics interviews the promoters.
• It assesses the business idea, market availability, potential value, growth prospects, innovative content and the promoter team.
• The cell says it favours projects that solve local needs at district and state level.

Techno International New Town, known as TINT and formerly Techno India College of Technology, is an engineering and management college in the New Town area of Kolkata, West Bengal. It sits under the Techno India Group and says it began in 2005.

The college offers B.Tech, M.Tech, MBA, BBA, BCA and MCA programmes. Its innovation work runs through an Institution Innovation Council, set up under the National Innovation and Start-up Policy for students and faculty.

How the incubation programmes work

The Business Incubation Cell takes ideas from students, faculty and recent alumni and tries to turn them into start-ups. Its stated services include workspace, access to technology and technical help, and it says it will support protecting ideas as patents. A panel of experts interviews the promoters and selects the ventures it takes on.

The Pre-Incubation Centre helps founders take an idea to a minimum viable product, through live workshops, feedback at key stages, mentoring and an e-certificate on completion.

Who can apply

The incubation cell is open to current faculty and staff, including adjunct faculty, and to current students and alumni who left within the last two years. The pre-incubation programme is open to co-founders of an idea or early-stage venture, and to students and working professionals with startup aspirations or product ideas.

Track record

The college's own page lists student ventures LAYAANA, WebInGo and SmartPay, which it dates to 2017 and 2019. It reports a Band-Performer place in the ARIIA 2021 rankings in the private, self-financed category, and NAAC accreditation at B++.

Where it is
