What is BIS Certification (ISI Mark)?

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) operates India product certification scheme under which manufacturers of specified goods must obtain the ISI Mark before selling those products in India. BIS certification is mandatory for over 400 product categories including electrical goods, cement, steel, and food packaging. It is also increasingly sought voluntarily by exporters to demonstrate compliance with Indian standards. We assist manufacturers and importers in obtaining and maintaining BIS product certification.

The Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 empowers the Bureau of Indian Standards, the national standards body of India, to operate a product certification scheme under which manufacturers may be granted the right to use the Standard Mark, popularly known as the ISI Mark, on products conforming to the relevant Indian Standard.

⚠️ Penalty for Non-Compliance

Manufacturing or selling products covered under mandatory BIS certification orders without a valid BIS licence is an offence under Section 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, punishable by imprisonment up to two years, a fine up to two lakh rupees for first offence, and enhanced penalties for repeat offences.
