What is ISI Mark Certification?

The ISI Mark from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is mandatory for over 300 product categories in India and is a quality mark accepted by government tenders and procurement. We manage the BIS application, factory inspection, and testing process end to end.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) issues the ISI Mark (Indian Standards Institute Mark) under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, through a product certification scheme. The ISI Mark is mandatory for over 300 product categories — including electrical goods (wires, cables, switches, plugs), LPG cylinders and fittings, cement, steel, helmets, packaged drinking water, and many others listed under BIS's mandatory certification orders. For mandatory categories, the product cannot be legally manufactured, sold, or imported without the ISI Mark. For other products, the ISI Mark is voluntary but widely demanded by government procurement and large buyers. The BIS grant process involves: application, BIS inspection of the manufacturing facility, testing of samples at a BIS-recognised laboratory, and grant of the Licence to use the ISI Mark.

How It Works

   Identify applicable IS standard

   We identify the Indian Standards (IS number) applicable to your product and check whether BIS certification is mandatory or voluntary for your category.

   Factory readiness

   We assess the factory against BIS inspection requirements — QC equipment, process controls, and documentation needed before applying.

   BIS application

   The application is filed with the relevant BIS office along with a factory inspection fee.

   BIS inspection and testing

   BIS conducts a factory inspection. Product samples are taken and tested at a BIS-recognised laboratory against the applicable IS.

   Licence grant

   On satisfactory inspection and test results, BIS issues the Licence to use the ISI Mark for the specific product and standard.
