What is Spices Board Registration?
Any exporter of spices from India must register with the Spices Board of India, the statutory body under the Ministry of Commerce that regulates spice exports. We complete the registration and obtain the Spices Board Exporter Certificate.
The Spices Board of India, established under the Spices Board Act, 1986, is the statutory authority that promotes and regulates the export of 52 specified spices from India. Any person or company exporting specified spices — including pepper, cardamom, turmeric, ginger, cumin, coriander, chilli, and 46 others — must register with the Spices Board. The Spices Board maintains a database of all registered spice exporters and issues a Registration Certificate that is cross-referenced by customs at the port of export. In addition to registration, exporters must ensure compliance with the Spices Board's quality standards — including maximum residue limits (MRL) for pesticides — and obtain a Certificate of Inspection for each consignment where required. The Board also operates a quality certification scheme (ISO/HACCP-certified spice processing) that opens access to premium international buyers. The Spices Board provides market development assistance, trade fair participation, and buyer-seller meets to registered exporters.
