The CII Foundation, in collaboration with Cadence Design Systems, presents the CRM Startup Innovation Challenge 2026–27. This initiative addresses the critical issue of crop residue burning in India, a significant contributor to air pollution and environmental degradation. The program aims to identify and empower innovative startups offering market-ready or near-market-ready solutions for crop residue management (CRM).
Through this challenge, one selected startup will receive substantial financial assistance, alongside comprehensive mentorship and field-level facilitation, to accelerate the scale-up and adoption of their solutions. The overarching goal is to reduce stubble burning, mitigate air pollution, and foster a sustainable, low-carbon agricultural economy. This program provides a crucial platform for early-stage CRM startups that often struggle with securing visibility, initial capital, and structured guidance needed to test and implement their innovations at a larger scale within agricultural communities. By connecting promising ventures with CSR leaders, government bodies, and industry partners, the challenge seeks to promote practical, technology-led CRM innovations that are easily adoptable by farmers, thereby driving meaningful environmental and economic impact.

One selected startup will receive ₹10 lakh in financial assistance, inclusive of all applicable taxes. This milestone-linked funding is designed to accelerate the scale-up of market-ready crop residue management solutions. Awardees will gain the invaluable opportunity to implement a field pilot in identified CRM districts, enabling real-world testing and impact. The program also offers unparalleled networking opportunities by connecting the startup with CSR leaders, government officials, industry partners, and the investor ecosystem, culminating in an invitation to present at a Demo Day.

Applications will undergo a rigorous screening and shortlisting process by the program organizers from November to December 2026. Shortlisted startups will then be invited for jury pitches in December 2026, where they will present their solutions to a panel of experts. The jury will evaluate applications based on criteria including environmental impact (30% weightage on reduction in stubble burning, emissions, and air pollution). The selection committee comprises experts from government, industry, academia, and the investor ecosystem. Only one startup will be selected as the winner and awarded the financial assistance.
