The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) is the central government ministry responsible for formulating policies and programmes for the MSME sector in India. It administers several schemes aimed at promoting entrepreneurship, livelihood creation, and enterprise development across the country.
The Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) is a credit-linked subsidy scheme implemented by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), providing margin money through banks for manufacturing units (up to INR 25 lakh) and service units (up to INR 10 lakh). Since its launch in 2008, over 9.69 lakh micro enterprises have been assisted with subsidy exceeding INR 25,500 crore, generating employment for an estimated 79 lakh persons. The ASPIRE (A Scheme for Promotion of Innovation, Rural Industry, and Entrepreneurship) scheme promotes innovation and rural enterprise, training over 1.16 lakh beneficiaries with 18,444 achieving self-employment and 1,141 micro-enterprises established.
