It runs in two stages: Entrepreneur-in-Residence support for taking an idea to a proof of concept, and a prototype development track for nascent startups with a proof of concept who are working toward a minimum viable product.

NIIC is INIF's satellite-incubation programme, sponsored by the National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board and the Department of Science and Technology. Rather than a direct-to-founder application, it is a partnership route: INIF works with another institution or university within reach of its campus to set up an innovation and incubation cell there, following the same idea-to-startup process INIF itself uses.
