About Ministry of Textiles

The Ministry of Textiles is the central government ministry responsible for policy formulation and promotion of the textiles and apparel sector in India. Through the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM), launched in 2020 with an outlay of INR 1,480 crore, the ministry aims to position India as a global leader in technical textiles.

The GREAT (Grant for Research and Entrepreneurship across Aspiring Innovators in Technical Textiles) scheme supports startups with grants of up to INR 50 lakh each for translating prototypes into commercial technologies and products. To date, 24 startups have been approved under GREAT. NTTM also includes components for promotion and market development, export promotion, and skill development targeting 50,000 individuals. Technical textiles applications span automobiles, civil engineering, agriculture, healthcare, and personal protection.

Who Benefits

Startups, young innovators, and scientists developing technical textiles products for medical, industrial, protective, agricultural, and construction applications who need grant funding to commercialise functional prototypes.
