Is it mandatory to have a registered company to apply?

While the company should ideally be registered as a Pvt. Ltd. Entity, entrepreneurs can apply with an idea and are required to formally register their company within 6 months of joining the program if not already a startup.

What is the maximum age limit for a startup to be eligible?

The date of incorporation for the applying company must be within the past 5 years from the date of application to the program.

Are there any revenue or funding caps for applicants?

Yes, the total cash inflow in terms of funding, grants, revenue from sales, or operations should not exceed ₹2.5 crore in any fiscal year since the company's incorporation.

What kind of support is provided besides funding?

Beyond grants, startups receive incubation space, technical and business mentorship from IIT Delhi faculty and industry experts, access to IIT Delhi's ecosystem and labs, networking opportunities, workshops, IP-related services, and connections to investors.

This program is a collaboration between Sona Comstar, a leading automotive technology company, and FITT (Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer) at IIT Delhi, aiming to leverage deep technological expertise and industrial insights to support promising startups. The core objective is to identify and nurture disruptive ideas that can significantly impact the future of travel and industrial applications, moving beyond existing solutions.

SCIDIP specifically targets concepts and ideas with strong intellectual property potential and clear translational or commercial prospects. It provides a robust platform for startups to validate their proof of concept and generate the necessary scientific and technical data to de-risk their technologies, making them more attractive to future investors and funding programs. Beyond financial support, the program immerses startups into the rich innovation ecosystem of IIT Delhi, offering unparalleled access to academic expertise, state-of-the-art laboratory infrastructure, and a network of industry experts. It aims to bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and market-ready solutions, thereby contributing to India's technological advancements in critical sectors.

The selection process involves a multi-stage evaluation:

First Level Selection: A technical expert committee, comprising representatives from academia, research, and predominantly industry, conducts the initial screening. Proposals are evaluated based on technical innovation, feasibility, technology readiness level, and preliminary technical data.

Second Round (Presentation): Shortlisted candidates from the first round are invited to present their techno-commercial plans. This selection committee includes representation from industry, financial bodies, investors, and FITT. Evaluation in this round focuses on technical strength, entrepreneurial intent, the strength of intellectual property, team capabilities, and the overall business plan.

Due Diligence: FITT conducts a thorough due diligence process for selected applicants. This includes reconfirming eligibility, legal, technical, and financial assessments, ensuring access to necessary resources, compliance with safety and EHS requirements, and budget justifications. Milestones and payment schedules are finalized, and agreements are signed with the incubatees.
