The Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT) is the primary industry-academia interface of IIT Delhi. Established on 9 July 1992 as a registered society by the IIT Delhi Board of Governors, FITT facilitates Research Translation, Technology Development, IPR Management, Technology Transfer & Commercialisation, R&D Collaboration, and Start-up Incubation and Mentoring.
FITT runs one of India's earliest academia-based incubators, initiated in 1999–2000. Startups receive access to prototyping facilities, a vast mentor network, co-working space, the Idea Lounge, conference rooms, subsidised office space within the IIT Delhi campus, and business support services including IPR management and legal/financial guidance. The Research and Innovation Park, managed by FITT, houses more than 125 startups and R&D labs on campus.
Key funding schemes hosted through FITT include TIDE-II (MeitY), NIDHI-SSS, SISFS, SAMRIDH, and BIRAC BIG — and corporate innovation programs from Boeing, Samsung, Sona Comstar, Pfizer, and Meta. FITT also hosts an Atal Incubation Centre (AIC) and a BioNEST biotechnology incubation facility.
FITT has incubated 150+ active startups (280+ over history), filed 1,618+ IPRs (including 1,300+ patents), executed 185+ technology transfers, and has facilitated over ₹450 crore in cumulative funding for its portfolio. Startup domains span Biotech (44%), HealthTech (44%), Electronics & Telecom (36%), Engineering & Design (20%), and Software/Power Systems (36%).
FITT is ideal for technology-first founders — especially IIT Delhi students, alumni, and researchers — building deep-tech products in areas such as clean energy, mobility, defence, aerospace, cybersecurity, healthcare, AI/IoT, and advanced materials. External founders with strong technology differentiation are also eligible. Technology-driven startups in their first five years, registered as private limited companies in India with majority Indian shareholding, are eligible to apply.
