Which cohort to apply to

AI 2030's accelerator has run as a single general track in the past and, more recently, as three separate sector cohorts — FinTech, LegalTech and Healthcare. Check the accelerator page for the current structure before applying, since deadlines and what each cohort covers differ.

• A working product or prototype, not just an idea
• AI genuinely core to what the product does, not added on afterward
• Practices that hold up to responsible-AI scrutiny (fairness, privacy, safety)
• A clear sense of what success looks like for your startup
• A team that can commit real time to a multi-month cohort

How applications work

Applications for the sector cohorts open ahead of each cohort's start and close roughly six to eight weeks before that cohort begins. Each of the three sector cohorts has its own separate closing date and showcase date, so apply to the cohort matching your sector rather than a general accelerator call.

Before you apply

AI 2030 does not state on its site whether the programme is free or takes equity — ask directly during the process if this matters to your decision. The programme is open to founders anywhere, so being based outside the US is not by itself a disqualifier.

AI 2030 is a non-profit initiative headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, in the United States, working to advance responsible AI for people, planet and prosperity. Alongside advocacy work, a leadership institute and a fellowship programme, it runs a startup accelerator open to applicants globally, including founders based outside the US.

How the accelerator works

AI 2030 has run its accelerator under two different structures. An earlier cohort, the AI 2030 Catalyst Portfolio Program, was a single four-month track for early- and growth-stage startups building responsible AI, AI-for-Good or AI-for-All solutions, and ran from September to December. Selected startups received mentorship, product validation support, go-to-market help, investor and partner introductions, and cloud credits from AWS.

A newer accelerator structure splits founders into three separate sector cohorts instead of one general track: FinTech, LegalTech and Healthcare, each taking ten startups and running on its own multi-month schedule with its own selection and closing showcase. Selection looks at sector fit, having a working product or prototype, AI being a core part of the product (not a bolt-on), readiness to build responsibly, a clear path to measurable outcomes, and a team that can commit the time a cohort demands.

What startups get

Participants in the newer sector cohorts get direct introductions to institutional buyers through reverse-pitch sessions, access to a network of more than 50 venture-fund partners, mentorship from 200-plus mentors and 100-plus subject-matter experts, technology credits from AWS, NVIDIA and Google, and a sector-specific "readiness package" meant to help a startup stand up to investor or buyer diligence. Access to the wider AI 2030 community continues after the cohort ends. AI 2030's own pages do not state whether either accelerator track charges a fee or takes equity.

Who runs it

AI 2030 was founded by Xiaochen Zhang, who leads the organisation as Executive Director and Chief Responsible AI Officer. The team includes heads of strategy, operations, research, and public affairs, plus regional leadership — including a Singapore chapter lead, but no India-specific chapter or lead.

Locations

AI 2030's main office is in Chicago, with regional councils in Boston, New York and California. It has no India office and no India-specific programme; its accelerator is a global call that Indian founders can apply to like any other applicant, not an India-based one.
